Default Stock vs. After Torque Arm and % of Power Loss

I'd like to get the numbers straight in my head here.

So how much power loss is there, crank to rear wheels with the stock torque arm?

I'm told 20%, some say 18%.
Is there a differance between an Auto vs. Manual?

Then, I'd like to know what to expect from an aftermarket torque arm.
It seems none of the aftermarket makers advertise a % of improvement, only that they are more efficent.

I'm looking at the adjustable: BMR, Sophn, and SLP versions.
Does any one know breakdown on these?

Thanks

You've got the idea of what a torque arm is completely wrong. No power goes through the torque arm, so there is no % of power gained or lost. That is through the entire drivetrain (transmission, driveshaft, rear end). An aftermarket torque arm would be just like a strut tower brace or panhard rod. Its not part of the drivetrain, so its cant lose power. Its just more efficient because it helps to plant the rear better. Nothing to do with how much or little power you have.

Agree with Josh, but for total drivetrain loss I've heard about 15-16% for m6 and 17-18% for a4. Take it with a grain of salt though, it could be totally false. Another thing to remember is, while you're losing 15% at stock levels, you might only be losing 12% at higher horsepower levels. It's not necessarily 15% across the board.

Wow, great advice!

Your right, I didnt understand the whole drivetrain setup.

I've gone ahead and ordered the SLP Torque Arm, so I wont be 'too' disappointed with min. power gains at the rear wheels :-)
