Default How can I reduce brake fade?

I need to reduce brake fade. Any suggestions on pad/ rotors / lines. The shutdown lane at my local drag strip is very short. I find my brakes start to fade almost instantly when I brake heavily in the shut down lane.

Try bleeding the brakes, or if you want, you can go ahead and do a fluid change and replace it with ATE super blue. Also a good set of pads would help, are you still on the stockers?

Stockers all the way around. So just changing to a good pad and nice fluid will help?

Yup, have you considered carbotech pads, theyre growing in popularity. Also I think LG motorsports should have ATE superblue in stock. Or you can check a local shop to see if they carry it.

ATE Super Blue or TYP 200 (Same fluid, different color to make it easier to change) should be about 10 bucks a liter if I remember right. Carbotech pads I hear are pricey, but I've heard some excellent things about them. They're on my list for next.

Hawk HPS pads are a good start. Or, Carbotech has some compounds you may want to try (I forget which ones, I never look at the "street" pads on their list). I believe the Axxis pads they sell are similar to the Hawk HPS, but I'd call them and verify that (they are a hawk dealer too, so they'll tell you the truth).

So would Brembo Blanks, ATE Super Blue Fluid, and Hawk pads significantly reduce my brake fade issue?

Well, it'll probably help... but then again, Trackbird can fade Hawk HP+ pads in a 50 second autoX on a Wilwood brake kit... Then again we all know that he drives like the mail man in the movie Funny Farm.

Just remember that your mileage may vary.

My rotors only turn purple (where they are not blue or orange ).

I have had fade issues on a 50 second autocross course to the point that I can't lock the brakes when I clear the timers at the end. This is with a 6 piston wilwood kit and HP+ pads. I doubt you'll do the things I do to brakes in that 50 seconds.....so, your results will very likely vary.

No really, you're an amazing driver Kevin... in those 50 seconds... half are spent forwards, the other half are spent sideways and/or backwards.

Oh no, I spend far more than half of them sideways or backwards.....it's more like 3/4 of them. I only go forward during that one point of each spin when I'm pointed that way....

Yes it will take car of your brake fade issue, and I think parts for your car (PYFC) carries carbotech pads, but only have em listed for the C5 on their site, im sure if you called they would be happy to get you the F-body pad.
