Default C5 Calipers on a SS?

Will the C5 calipers fit on my SS? if so, do they mount on just like my stock ones, or do i need a special bracket?

Thanks,
Chris

Do a search on this topic and you'll find the same question asked every day.

You need different brackets.

I think he's wanting to use the C5 calipers on his stock LS1 brakes. If so, they don't fit properly, but if you do some grinding, you can get them on there. To use the C5 rotor and caliper and pads, etc, you'll need a conversion kit.

You have to grind on the reinforcing ribs on the calipers in 2 places to get them to bolt to the F-body brackets.

If you keep the stock rotors, all you need to do is a bit of grinding on the caliper (which I'm personally not a fan of, but many have done it).

Mtnm2,

what you are saying is that i can buy a complete C5 caliper and install it as i would the stock F-body caliper?

I've searched and read previous threads, only to find contradicting info. its confusing.

Thanks
Chris

I was always under the impression that they would bolt right in... the only difference was the pistons on the corvette calipars were smaller....

Do all corvette calipars have the corvette lettering?

I bolted a set of Corvette ZO6 calipers straight on my car. No grinding needed. They are exactly like regular vette calipers, just powdercoated red

They bolt right on guys. There is no grinding done if your just installing the C5 caliper only. They bolt right to the LS1 brackets. I`ve done it to my car as well, so I know.

ok now do the regular vette calipars have the corvette lettering on them? I want to get a set and powder coat them a different color than red so I really don't want the ZO6 calipars

Yes they do. However, I somehow have come into posession of a set that have no lettering on them and I can't figure out where they originally came from (they are just black, no letters, on them and don't look to have been ground off and painted or anything like that).

Do part stores sell reman calipers, if so this maybe where your calipers came from. When i got my calipers powdercoated, i went and bought two brand new calipers from advance and they work as well as the originals.

$95x4=$380 I know the backs are the same as ours but I meant for all 4

You could just get 2 and yes it would be cheaper since the backs are the same

Not trying to steal this thread but how much better are the c5's callipers? I mean the car is lighter than the f-bodys so the same callipers on eather car would have diffrent stoping rates because of the weight. So are they really worth the money? Or should I go for an aftermarket manufacture

There's a good bit of info on the C5 calipers in the brake sticky. Plus TONS of threads on the subject.
