Default Power steering problems...

Well last time I went up into the mountain...I was having fun hanging corners, etc. I wasn't pushing the car to teh limits whatsoever.

Halfway through my power steering pump starts to whine, so I pull over and check the fluid and it was bubbling...very hot. Now my power steering pump whines every so often, just wondering how to keep this from doing it again when I drive my car rather hard?

Add a cooler. If you already have one, call "Turn One" and get a pump. They build a reduced volume (the stock pump moves too much fluid and the excess is recirculated, this heats the fluid) pump that has worked great for many of the autocross/road race crowd (so you should be fine with it as well).

Not to hijack, but I couldn't remember which member(s) had both the Turn One pump and an OEM cooler, fitted with an AN-6 SS line. I am waiting to order a replacement pump with pulley from Turn One, however I'm trying to figure out how to safely retrofit the AN-6 to the OEM power steering cooler input.

Sorry, I figure this enquiry could add useful info to the thread.

BTW, when I ran my stock power steering pump hard, some of the fluid puked. Bad news, even though I properly filled the power steering system with the right type and proper amount of fluid and waiting for the microscopic air bubbles to evacuate overnight.

I've heard of this Turn One pump, where can I find this thing?

And with this, would I have to add a cooler or no?

Lingenfelter has it, or you can buy from turn one (try google, I forget the link). I'd still recommend a cooler.

Foxxton:

Pimpmaro just did a braided line swap on the pressure side of the pump (we made up the line). You might PM him for details.

I acutally picked up a used OEM cooler from ebay, but don't know if they're any available at the moment. The OEM one is available from a GM dealer and it is designed as a radiator hose retrofit. It uses the radiator fluid to cool the PS fluid.

There are other designs that use front end air to cool the fluid, which might be more effective, but placement becomes an issue when going that route.
