Default Corvette brake Cal on a F-body

I am wanting to get some corvette brakes for my 02 Trans Am. I was just wondering if I use stcok size brake rotors for F-body cars, can I just bolt the Corvette caluber on to the stock location? or do I still need some kind of spacing bracket whether I use the vetter rotors or the stock F-body rotors?

you only need the bracket when you use the c5 rotors, calipers pretty much bolt in.

You need caliper brackets, caliper bracket adapters (from UMI/ByunSpeed) and Vette Rotors.

The F body calipers and pads can be used.

I don't need the rotors just the calibers, does it matter what year vette calibers they are? or will all of them fit on the F-body? what about the 04 and earlier ZO6 brake calibers?

Z06 and regular Vette calipers are identical construction the only diff is the Z06'rs are powder coated red.

The Vette calipers are virtually a direct replacement ot the OEM F-Car caliper. same pads same brackets same rotors.

If you're going through the process of doing this for better braking, I would also go with some braided brake lines. They will get rid of some of the spongy feel since they won't stretch like the OEM rubber lines will. You may even want to go the extra step and flush the brake system with a better fluid that has less compressibility. This will have the same effect as replacing the brake lines (less spongy). This will help the calipers engage faster and even harder when the pedal is all the way down.

THere's no reason to do it, if you aren't going with bigger rotors. THe Vette pistons are smaller (giving more back braking bias) that the Fbodies, so actually the Fbody's are better for 12" rotors. The only reason to go to the Vette calipers is to use the 13" rotors.

They are made differnt as well, The Vette calipers are gravity cast, which makes them a little more durable / longer life.

how many piston are the c5 calipers compared to the 4th fbody?

are they too similar to warrant c5's as being an upgrade?

other than the piston diameter and casting method (and I guess paint), they are identical. THe caliper brackets (the piece that bolts to the spindle and the caliper pins slide on/in) are different and the only reason you would need those is to go to the bigger 13" brake.

Here's some info:

Actually, the LS1 F-body calipers are gravity cast (or just cast), the C5 calipers are pressure cast (not forged, but cast under pressure). Just wanted to clarify (the C5 calipers are stronger, but they do have smaller pistons as stated).

oops, you're right. I messed that one up

Actually, I think I would go with the 13" rotors and LS1 calipers

They sound pretty nice. I wonder who'll come out with a caliper relocation bracket first. 14" would be pretty nice but it'd be a tight fit for stock wheels. I know that 18" rims would work but would 17" rims work with 14" rotors?

the c5 bracket will work for it, since the c6 z06 brakes bolt right up to the c5. i think 18"s are required.

They bolt right up even with the 1" difference in rotor diameter from the 13" to the 14"?

Thats what I was going to ask. Or is it that the Z06 has different brakes from the standard C6? I know the Z06 has the 14" brakes. What does the standard C6 come with?

If the C6 has 13" rotors then the C5 bracket would be 1/2" short of fitting in the Z06 rotor.

The mounting locations on the Z06 caliper are in the same place as the C5. So, you use the C6-Z06 rotors and calipers and bolt them to the C5 conversion brackets. Or, you can use the C6-Z51 PAB and rotors with the C5 calipers and they also bolt to the same location. So, you simply need to keep the parts matched up (Z06 or Z51) and bolt them to the C5 conversion brackets. The caliper on the Z06 makes up the difference in diameter. The Z51 PAB makes up the difference for the 13.4" rotor (all use a common mounting location).

Did that make sense?

I want to know this as well. I have a set of these brakes in my garage waiting to go on the car. I need 18" wheels and possibly adapter brakets. I can have those made if I know the dimensions. I can't wait. These brakes are awesome to see. The calipers are huge and the front rotors are heavy!

You do need 18" wheels with these brakes. The calipers are huge and will not fit inside 17" wheels. Backspacing is also important. I saw this C5 that upgraded and with 18" Y2K vette wheels, they needed spacers and still only had a few millimeters of clearance. Personally I would like a little more clearance for peace of mind.

SWEET! Does anyone have a set of C5 caliper relocation brackets they could measure? I have access to a CNC machine and the metal, but need to know some details to have these made up. Let me know. Thanks.
