bonus it's not going to be sufficient in itself to break
loose a tire. Just enough to get you out of the sand.
Preload has to be low enough not to be a menace to
normal differentiation, after all. Like more than ice and
less than rain, traction-wise.

T2R's are not pre-loaded anymore. Actually for the 10-bolt, they never were only for the 8.8" fords. Not enough room in our carriers for all the stuff needed.

I agree.. For road racing/auto X the T2R is better suited. The unit is not as strong but has a much smoother engagement/torque transfer.

So none of the F-body T2-Rs had the preload that
their marketing literature goes on about? Bummer.
I wonder then what differentiates it (heh) from the
somewhat cheaper T2-HD?

Cut of the gears is all different, case is heavier. Higher bias ratio

I'd not recommend a T2R for a drag car AT ALL because a lot of grip and power and the way those diffs work can break the actually carrier. A modestly powered car that once and while drags.... myabe. If you don't do the things that the T2R is design for then a T2R isn't what you'd ideally want.

In short we'd have to have a conversation regarding your uses, and pick the most suitable unit from there.

I guess in this case any compromise is just that, a bad compromise! An Eaton (or Auburn Pro) is not going to exit corners like a T2R, and they are not going to launch (and last) like a locker. Like you say, specific horses for specific courses!

here is the latest video with the Eaton and 4.10 gears.
Unfortunately, this is run #2. runs #1, 3 & 4 were more entertaining since I was driving much harder, but there are no videos of those runs,
