Default Battery Relocation with t-tops?

Has anyone done this? I was thinking about mounting the battery where the ttop shade is right behind the back seats. In the trunk it wouldn't work because the ttops would be there. Any ideas?

Have you considered a lighter battery instead? A lot of the racers are going with a Hawker Odyssey PC680, weighing about 13 lbs.

I don't have one yet, but I'm getting one. I think the stock battery weighs about 35-40 lbs, so that's a significant amount of weight off the nose of the car. Most reports are that it works fine, even when the temps drop.

Someone here posted this picture and I saved it. I hope it's okay to repost it.

What about mounting it in that little cubby hole on the driver's side of the trunk? I'm assuming the reason you're not mounting it the conventional way is because you want to keep your spare tire? If you mounted it in the cubby hole you could keep your spare AND still have the space to store your T-tops.

Just an idea.

oh! people do it in the spare tire well? I don't have a spare tire anyway so that would be ideal. How tough is that?

It's easy. They make relocation kits specifically to go there.

so next question - since the other battery is like 13 lbs or something, is it worth it to put the 13 lbs on the back?

When you relocate a regular sized battery to the rear, you're actually adding more weight to the car than when you started.

It's not recommended having long cables on the Hawker batteries, so no, you'd have to keep it in the front.

It's always good to take weight off the nose and put it over the axle. Every little bit helps.

That's a tough call. I'd always rather take weight off my car if I can, but Car Craft had an article claiming that you could lower your ET by adding weight to the rear. I guess it depends how you use your car. Also, the 27 lbs. or so of weight you'd save going with the Hawker is like gaining about 3 hp. Tough call though.

I'd imagine the kit itself would probably be 10lbs also or something. So going from 50lbs to 13lbs. I'd say hawker would be best.

When I got my car it had and still does have a sub where it would be relocated to I think with how much they weigh and the hassles involed compared to a light one isn't worth relocating for a daily.

I think upgrading to the light weight one is a better investment.

I would rather put it out back and run an optima battery, reasoning is the optima is a more reliable choice.
