Default Ball joint problem

I just finished installing a set of Bilstien HD's. When I test drove my car there was a knocking sound coming from my driverside front wheel. I went home and recheck everthing and found nothing wrong. I decided to pull the shock to see if I screwed something up. Everything looks o.k. When I went to connect the ball joint, the shaft is turning with the nut. It didn't do this the first time a put the shock in. If anyone has any idea about the knocking sound or the ball joint or if the noise is related to the balljoint, please let me know. Thank you.

There should be a crown bolt with a cotter pin for that bolt. I don't know if that's what is causing your knocking sound, but I would definitely make sure it's put back together correctly.

I took everything apart and put it back together. When I went to connect the ball joint to the spindle arm, the threaded part of the ball joint is spinning with the crown bolt. I can't tighten the bolt for that reason.

Maybe one of the rivets that holds the bolt in place broke?

I'm going to have to replace the ball joint no matter what. I hope that is the cause of the knocking, I can't find anything else wrong. Thanks.

it would not tighten? I would put a prybar at the spring on top of the upper control arm and pry down on it. see if this helps.

Also, my friend had the same noise when going over bumps. it turns out the nut for the strut was not tight (nut that holds it to the strut mount). it was all the way down, but not tight enough

I ordered a new balljoint from Advanced,(no one had any in stock). I hope that will take care of the knocking as well. Everything else seems ok. I've had the assembly apart like three times to recheck. Thanks everyone.
