Question Just brakes may be lying

ok I have a 2000 Trans Am, its got 35k miles. I had the brakes done by Just Brakes in December, the car had 32k miles then. Before I needed brakes, they were getting low BUT the car didnt squeal or did anything funny. After just brakes it worked really good for about 1k miles then after that it does a light sqealing noice when your going down the road, the car stops fine but it sounds like **** going down the road. I took it to them today and they told me It needed all 4 calipers rebuilt because they were not letting out enought and was crytalizing the pads. Any ideas?

Sounds like a load to me. I have 111,000 miles on my calipers and they work perfectly. Sounds like a cop out for bad work. I would get a second opinion if I were you.

Crystallizing the pads, eh! That's a shame--whatever that means.

If your calipers aren't releasing enough, usually some lube on the sliders will fix that. Pull 'em off, lube the sliders and try them again. While your at it, you might check to make sure the piston boots are in good shape. Also, take a C-clamp and move the pistons all the way in to make sure they aren't sticking.

damm, I knew I should of done the brakes my self. I almost did but I figured, I can do it myself for $100, OR they can do it for a $100.

I would sure like to know what junk pads they put on. Did they turn the rotors below minimum??

Brakes dragging might ring the rotor like a wine glass.
Feel the wheels after some sustained cruising and
minimal braking, see if any one is especially warm
relative to the rest. Different compounds will make
for more or less squeal. Definitely take the advice on
the guide pins, those are a known trouble spot and
something a lazy brake tech might be pleased to
ignore, if they even read the instructions.

Cheap pads are known for squealing every once in a while. It will probably go away for a month or so and then come back. Don't get your calipers rebuilt. There's probably nothing wrong with them. If you do get your calipers rebuilt, the squealing will probably still be there.
