Default Stock or 1le on 2002 t/a

What size swaybar came standard on 2002 trans ams? Would the 1le swaybar be an improvement over it?

it would be a slight improvement, since the ILE package was part of the ram air setups.

I would suggest just getting a BMR, sphon or one of those brands! thats even a bigger difference then stock and a bigger difference of 1LE plus the aftermarket brand come with poly bushings and grease fittings!

1LE over stock 30 is an improvement. Aftermarket 32's vs. a 1LE/SS bar is a waste of time and money IMHO. The difference between a solid and hollow bar is much too small to be worthwhile. And buying a bar just because you get $30 of bushings but not much more stiffness it nuts.

Especially when everyone knows this car loves bigger front bars. Nobody who's gone to a 35 bar has ever gone back to something smaller. And frankly the cost is right in the same range as the aftermarket 32's, what's not to like? Further the aftermarket 32's are heavy. You can run a hollow 35 like I build which gains you about 2 pounds over stock 30mm (vs. 12+ for a solid 32, and 15+ for a solid 35), get much bigger gains in roll stiffness and response than with a 32 as well.

The 1LE package got a fatty rear (solid 21mm), my WS6 had a 19mm.

Bzzz.... mostly incorrect. Only '93 1LE's got a 21 rear bar. All the 94+ cars that came from GM had 19's. That's because in '93 the spring package was different than the '94+ cars.

Psst... OK, a 1LE front bar is no different than a stock SS/WS6 bar. So.. a "true" 1LE package had the larger rear, and yes only because the front spring rates were proportionatly stiffer to compensate for the big rear. His rear and mine was still 19mm. Don't let me remind you of this again Sam...

'93 1LE:
32mm front bar
21mm rear bar
360 front spring
115 rear spring (standard Z28)

'94-99 1LE:
32mm front bar
19mm rear bar
360 front spring
130-180 rear spring.

All common 1LE's had 19 rear bars, not 21's. Yet eveyone insists on calling the 21 1LE, like it's the only rear bar they ever had when in reality the 21 was on a hugely small minority of cars.

You are correct when you say both your rears are 19mm. I'm not aruging that. I'm simply telling you that in the previous posts when you said "The 1LE package got a fatty rear (solid 21mm)", that it's only partially true, and that the car that did have a 21 rear OEM also had a different spring combination as well.

In short NO CAR ever came with stock, non-1LE springs AND a 32/21 bar combination. And shouldn't have because it's relatively too stiff in the rear. Doing 32/21 on a stock car is building just what GM never did, and would be the same mistake IMHO.
