Default New Tires, Car wanders.....

I just got some new goodyear gs-d3 tires put on my 17" ws6 rims. On a smooth flat road the car handles and runs great with no wandering. On other roads the car throws itself right or left, why is this? thanks

Many reasons, including:
* Wide tires follow ruts
* Possibly worn shocks
* Possibly need an alignment

That's wierd because it did that on my near bald stock tires, and now its cut down nearly 75% with my Nittos.

I got the same thing, brand new 275/40/17 555s all around, on a good road the car goes straight and everythings great but on a not-so-great road all of a sudden its like one wheel almost locking up and the steering wheel feels like it has play in it, gonna get it re-aligned soon... Wish my brother's laser alignment system would work for my cars (probally could but would need to make some extended brackets).

What tires were you running before? It could be something as simple as the difference in sidewall thickness between your old tires and the new ones.

If you had the stock F1's before the GS-D3's are over an inch, almost 2 inches wider with the same size. My car did this a bit also. Also, how much pressure do you have in them. More than 33 psi is too much.

It's called tramlining...here is an explanation:

Thanks for the input. I went from the original f1(275/40/17), to a winter tire package(225/55/16), to the gs-d3(275/40/17). I had an alignment done on the winter tire package about a month ago. So will I need a new alignment? Also for the tramlining it says that it mostly occurs in higher mileage cars and mine only has 34,800 miles. The tire pressure is 32 psi.

the gs-d3s are sticky... i would check the tire pressure and shocks and just live with it. its one of the trade-offs of having a sticky tire

Actually, my car did the same thing when I installed the 315/35R17 Gs-D3'3 on 17x11 TTII's.

At the time, I was running 32lb air in my tires - Sam Strano told me that I would get the type of result you're talking about, to some degree, no matter what; since I went with such wide tires - he also told me to lower my pressure some - I went with 28lbs and it is very noticeably reduced.

There may be many other factors that lead to this - best thing is to call Sam - he definitely knows what he's talking about in the suspension dept.!

I know on my car it was b/c of the front wheel alignment. Would come out of a shop after getting align and wander. Then I found a family owned shop that did it and drives beautifully, only place I go to now w/ all cars.

Here is my experience in this.. I had the same exact problems when I had the stock 16x8 wheels and tires, I put on double diamond sub frame connectors and the problem went away around 80%, put on a STB and took care of the rest. I would have problems with the car almost wanting to jump lanes at times in grooves etc.. Now, last month I put on 17x9.5 wheels and Falken GR beta tires and I get some of the same feeling with grooves and pulling. My wheel alignment is perfect and no other mods, so it is the tires. It still is better than the stock ones, before the sub frame connectors and stb though. Not sure if you have added sfc's, but they do help and well worth the price to take care of rattles and make the car solid.
