Default Which Ones

There's no where really to post this. I didn't want it in the gears or suspension section because it might be biased there so I'm posting it here.

Ok my car is your basic bolt on car. I doesn't really see any track time and it's my current DD. I'm thinking of buying one of two modifications right now but I'm not sure which one to get. These will be for taking my car on the backroads we have here in WI and just really enjoying the road.

So should I get some 4.10's with a TA Girdle and tune for speedo or should I get Strano front and rear sway bars with bushing's and endlinks?

Thanks guys

My mods are Whisper lid, p&p tb, longtube headers, ORY, loudmouth exhaust. Lowering springs, strut tower brace, 3pt subframe connectors.

The cars an M6.

4.10s aren't bad for an M6, even on the street, but I think for not racing too much, the sway bars would be the better choice.

Your going to hate a 4.10 if it's your daily driver. Gas = 3.10 Plus, think about all the RPMs turning, especially if you like to cruise on interstate. Sway Bars would be the more conservative choice IMO.

I'm not really worried about gas. since it is a six speed I can really keep the RPM's down. Plus I only work like five mins from my house so I'm not exactly racking up the miles on the car.

I guess my real question is how much of a SOTP feel will have with each mod and which one would be greater?

I guess I would say 4.10's you will definatley be able to tell the difference. You might be able to notice a little better handling with the sway bars. And if you mostly back road cruising and just playing around you shouldn't have to worry to much about breaking the rear even with the gears. my friend has a 91 fox body 5.0 stang with cam(small) bolt ons and 4.10's while his caar doesn't handle as good as mine it's still a blast we have to slow down a little more for the turns but then we fly through 2nd and 3rd then slow down for the next corner. as long as the road is fairly tight with turns close to each other I have more fun in his car. and the abilty to slide th tail out in anytime you want in the any of the first 3 gears is nice.

My friendly local road racer says go for the gears. You need lots of driving experience before you would get as much benefit from improved suspension. Your stock suspension is quite good. When you are ready for suspension upgrades, better shocks are probably more important than stiffer sway bars.

id go with the bars, gears arent gonna be that great if your not a drag racer, lower gearing for the cruiseing will be better and stiffer bars will making cruiseing around those turns nice

My buddy has 4.10s and on the highway at 80mph he is under 2000 or at most maybe 2200? Something rediculously low still. 4.10's and a 6 speed = no traction but a hell of alotta fun though!

From the posts it seems like the gears are winning but from the poll the bars have more votes.

I don't race the car so there won't be any hard launches, I highly doubt just agressive driving on the back roads will break my rear end.

2200 is where my rpm's are at 80 mph, no big deal there. I wished I'd done it sooner. These M6 cars are better with bigger gears because they ain't light.

Hmm... you posted (paraphrasing) that you wanted to enjoy the back roads. To me, back roads means canyon carving, not drag strips.

I see the 4.10 gears causing you more traction problems, especially not being accustomed to them. I'd say the safer route is to do the bars now and the gears later.

SOTP meter? The gears will be much more noticeable everywhere. If you plan to haul *** through corners, 4.10's are overkill.

Someone moved this thread to the handling section. I guess I know what everyone's going to vote for now. That's why I didn't put it here or in the gears section so we could have an even amount of people from both sides voting.
