that can happen if you dont keep them tight. any torque arm will do that. do you have a moser rear. if so they can be a pain. i have never had any probs but some people have. call them up and see what they say.

You need to buy longer bolts and double nut them. No problems ever.

Where did you guy's get the longer bolts??
I have to either fix the TA or get a new one first then worry about the bolts.

You can order it from Spohn directly, it's their "hardware mounting kit" for 20 bucks.

I'm going to be buying UMI Performances 1982-02 GM F-Body Transmission Mounted Adjustable Torque Arm for $290.00 soon. Would you guys recommend getting the hardware kit that includes longer bolts? Would you also recommend getting chrome moly or mild steel?

Might as well do it right and get the best you can buy. That's my motto. Other's might have more mods than me, but I try to buy the best I can, I rather have the best quality over quantity.

The only reason I ask is because I hear chrome moly is and can be very brittle, and can crack or split if used on a daily driven vehicle. The mild steel allows a little more flex.

Yes I'm running a Moser 12 bolt...used thread lock...locking washer's. My friend is trying to get a plate from Spohn to re-weld onto the arm, if not...I guess a new Torque Arm will be purchased.

I just bought a spohn floor mounted longtube lt1 setup torque arm -$395 and the hardware package. I'm installing it tomorrow, but later on down the road, when I purchase a 12 bolt or 9" rear, will I have problems with the torque arm? It's a great strong piece and I'd hate to get rid of it, especially after spending four hundred dollars on it.

Yep I broke it. 1.42 60 with a 6 speed. PS Spohn stood behind there product. I just had to pay for the new slicks that got cut down in the process and the yoke that twisted when it pulled the driveshaft out of the tranny.

I have the spohn as well and have to go under and tighten them every now and then. every now and then I will get a clunk in the rear when accelerating. I went under the car and the torque arm had some play up and down. Looks like some of the powdercoating came off and is giving it a little more play than usual. I called spohn and they just said to tighten it down a bit more and it solved the problem.

going to be getting the longer bolts next time it starts up.

How many times have you borken things that normal people wouldn't even think about going wrong. that sucks

Well the good news is ,only the plate has to be replaced...and not even welded just bolts on. I have lost count of all the things I have broken on this car....must just be a tester for everyone's stuff without getting paid for it

OOOOOUCH! mine is not nearly that severe. I only snapped the plate on the first bolt on the underside of the rearend. I must say that is very impressive though.

I have your bracket in my office. It didn't snap, what happened is it appears the bolts were loose for some time, as the one hole in the Spohn torque arm bracket is considerably oblonged. When this happened it fatigued the metal, causing a crack originating at the oblonged bolt hole.
It the bolts mounting the torque arm to the rearend loosen up, the torque arm will work the bolts back and forth, and can cause them to strip out the threads in the rear-end, plus ruin the torque arm bracket. Normally you can hear and feel this movement when the bolts loosen up, but not always.
The Moser 9 inch uses the factory method of mounting the torque arm, using two long bolts that go all the way down through. The Moser 9 inch does not have the problem with the torque arm bolts backing out. For those of us with the Moser 12 bolt, we have found that longer torque arm bolts and loc-tite are a must. Bob
