Default How difficult is a pad and rotor swap?

I've read the how-to on installuniversity.com and it seems straight foreward. Have any of you fellow non-mechanic types done it for yourself? I've done things like the waterpump and plug change, they weren't too bad. Anything to watch out for? Tips?

It's really easy. It was one of the first things I did myself on the car and I was definitely mechanically declined at the time (and still am). Just make sure you take your time and do one at a time, so you can go look at the other side to see how things are supposed to go together. Also, make sure you lube the slider pins. Not everyone does and that can cause major problems later.

very easy, prob just the 4 bolts and you should have the bracket, pads and rotor off. if your replacing the rotors and pads it should take you no more than an hour if that if you take your time. if the rotor doesnt seem to want to come off just hit it with a hammer somewhere in the middle between the studs and it should pop right off. there might be (i doubt it) two little screws in the face of the rotor itself you have to just unscrew to get the rotor off. they just hold the rotor in place but like i said im pretty sure they wont be there...mostly on imports. any questions just pm me.

Hey Mike, where are those slider pins and what do they look like?

Hey, if you've never done it before, and you are that worried about trying it, print off the guide and make yourself a checklist.

Chances are if you do something wrong you'll be able to notice it right off the bat, but if you are that new to this some really simple mistakes can become pretty painful.

You don't want to go breaking a brake line, forgetting to tighten things, leaving brake fluid reservior cap off, stuff like that. It's easy to do especially if you are nervous.

All in all it is pretty easy, though.

When you remove the caliper bolts, they bolt into the slider pins. They're covered by dust boots, but if you pull them out, you should see them coated in grease. They allow the calipers to slide as the pads clamp down. If they freeze, bad things can happen.
