Default brake pad removal/re-install

If I took my brake's apart to paint/polish them, can I re-use my old brake pads (they are still good) and scuff the rotors with 150grit sand paper. Or do they have to be thrown away because they have already been broken in to the rotors.

It would be fine if you reused them.

Hi,

Well I'm no expert... oh wait I am... haha--at least im suposed to be :-). Here is the deal, you will be good if there are no grooves on the pads. It is a good idea to hit the pads as well as the rotors with the sand paper. Also, it may be a good idea to clean the contact areas with mineral sprits or lacquer thinner. I hope this helps.

Good Luck

Never occured to me, I've taken out the brakes to put in shocks/springs and never hit them with sandpaper. Just sprayed the rotor with brake cleaner. Good to know...

Thanks guys. I have taken the brakes off for stock/spring/rear-end/etc changes, however haven't actually taken the pads out of the calipers, so I didn't know if that made a difference.
