Is it possible to take the backing plates off a stock rear WITHOUT opening pumpkin?
I'm trying to take the backing plates off the rear end I have(stock 10 bolt) and I am wondering if it's possible to take them off without opening up the pumpkin and letting all the fluid out and removing the c clips....thats a real pain....i ALSO am trying to get the ABS sensors at the end without taking the rear end apart....Thanks ahead of time.....

The rear has to come apart to remove the axles.

Well, the rear doesn't need to "come apart" per say. You just have to slide out the axles. Fairly easy, i'll try to give you a couple of pointers...
Pull the wheels off, unbolt the brakes completely(calipers, brackets, etc..), then you will see the hub on the end of the axle. Now go and unbolt the cover on the differential. Put ya a pan down for the fluid and let it all drain out. With a couple of turns on the axles you should be able to see this itty bitty bolt that goes through the center section. I believe it's an 8 mm, but I am not quite sure. Take that bolt out, and then slide out that little block of metal that sits in the center of the chunk(can't remember the exact name). Then you will notice you can slide the axles back and forth a little bit. Push them in with a little force and you'll see the little c-clip fall down. Then you can slide the axle right out, and unbolt your backing plates .
It's not at all as complicated as it seems. Very easy job. Drop me an email if you have any questions or need some more help.
