Default Anyone cut stock rear springs to lower their car?

I am considering cutting my stock rear springs about 3/4 or 1 coil to lower the car. I have HALS up front, so lowering the front is easy. Any concerns about the springs falling out if you hit a big bump and extend the springs?

Looking for someone who has done this previously.

I haven't done it yet, but I plan on doing it this spring, so I'm interested in finding out how much to cut off to get about a 1" drop.

If you are going to cut springs, do it a half a coil at a time and let the spring air cool, don't use water to cool it.
Be sure to heat the coil, opposite where you cut it, enough to be able to turn it over and bend that end flat. It will seat better in the car.

From what I understand, you should never use a torch to cut springs. I plan on using a port-a-band.

You definitely want to use a cutting wheel, not a torch. A torch will weaken the spring, and it could break later on!

I heard cutting springs period is a really bad idea .... Car won't drive right because the compression ratio of the spring is thrown off or something like that... Just what i heard... <img border="0" title="" alt="[Cool]" src="gr_images/icons/cool.gif" />

Cutting springs is fine and will not collapse.
I wouldn't cut more than 1 coil. Some people are getting the old rice method of a taking a torch
to a spring already installed on a car confused with the proper way to cut it.

Like 99HOSS said if you cut the spring, you have to take a torch to the opposite side (directly across from where you cut it) to bend the end of the coil down to seat properly. It's not that complicated and has worked for me on my 91RS and others.
