Default testimonial to not drive on nitto dr's in the rain

last night it was raining like a big bitch in texas and i decided to make the trip from san antonio to corpus. i was going 70 on a straight road and all the sudden i start doing 360's and spin right off the road. no body damage but the alignment is totally f'd up. i couldn't even go over 60mph. beware.

Here is my story from when i posted this on my local board a while back... worn nitto's are EVIL
quote:
Well i was on my way to Orlando today to see my g/f. It started to get misty right when i left but i thought it was going to let off. I was going to take my Nissan but figured it would clear up. Well the rain got ALOT worse and the slick Nitto's let me know to what they thought...

I was going East on I-4 in the right hand lane(4 wide w/ median), had already slowed down to 45 and driving VERY carefully when the back end just gave out. I spun across the left lane and spun into the median. It gets better... I continued to spin and ended up in oncoming traffic(still spinning) as i saw an 18 wheeler heading right for me. I ended up having enough momentum to continue over and stop my car just in time to avoid hitting the trees.
It was a pretty scary thing. I had a moment of silence to figured out what the heck just happened. I somehow managed to get my car back on the road and ended up in Orlando to see my g/f in one piece!
As for the T/A after visual inspection everything is fine except it needs a major bath to get all the dirt and grass off of it. No body damage bent axles or anything like that. God was looking over me(and my car).
Words of wisdom "When in doubt, take the nissan"
Bald Nitto's are EVIL in the rain. I knew better. But as i should not have done, I believed the weather man that is was going to clear up. The tires are still great on dry pavement but hit one puddle and you are done.
It's great to be alive and breath that fresh air of life. A little bit less momentum and i would have been another bug on that 18 wheelers grill and another obituary in the paper.

update** After i wrote that ir ealized i DID have damage. I got a nail in one of my nitto's!

Sorry to hear that, but the Nitto's must be pretty worn.

I have had five pairs of them on different cars, and when they are 90% worn they are just like any old bald tire.

3 days ago I hydroplaned into 360s and off the highway at 55 while it was raining here in TX too. Bent my outter tie rod, inner tie rod, and no body damage. Took it to the shop today and their charging me $310 to fix it all.

Next time I will take my girlfriends Nissan pickup. It handles great in the rain.
