"Hammering" noise after rear suspension upgrade

I've installed the following parts:
* G2 poly/rod end LCA's and Panhard
* BMR Torque Arm
* BMR Bolt-on LCA Relocate Brackets
* 1LE Tranny mount
on my '99 SS vert. It already had BMR STB and SFC's. and the '01 SLP OE Bilstein Suspension.
The setup works great, totally eliminated the axle hop I was experiencing. However, int autoX when accellerating hard in a right hand curve I get a "hammering" sound ... like a rubber mallet bouncing quickly ... coming from the rear.
It doesn't seem to affect handling, and I haven't been able to find any signs of contact.
Any ideas of what I should look for?

I really dont know what the sound could be, but I had one experience that kinda reminded me of the rubber mallet thing,
I had someone change the rear end fluid when i first bought the car (i'll never do that again), and they didnt put in the additive, so 100 miles or so, i got tons of noise from the rear end of my car when making a turn with different amounts of power applied, it was the clutch paks in the auburn differential i have. I dont know if you have an auburn or a torsen (which doesnt have clutches, and wont make the noise), but keep that in mind.

I had installed a BMR torque arm and inadvertantly rotated the rear axle the wrong way for the pinion angle setting and the passengerside rear coil would rub on the panhard bracket. Beleive it or not installed two troque arms and did the same thing twice. You would think I would have learned from my mistakes The instructions for the pinion angle setting are very confusing to me.

Thanks Guys. I think I've covered most of those items. I did find that the Torque Arm was bottoming on the driver's side of the tunnel. I did a little grinding on it. Hopefully that will be the cure. Tuesday (next autoX) will tell.
Thanks for the welcome Andy ... looking forward to seeing your Berger in Bowling Green.

**Update**
The bit of grinding I did on the torque arm didn't solve anything
BMR's response so far hasn't been all that encouraging either.

On cars that have a lower ride height the tunnel must be "massaged" to create proper clearance, or as you stated, the bracket can be ground on( we prefer the first method as it does not affect the car) to create more clearance.

I'm not prepared to accept that the OE Bilstein suspension qualifies as a "lowered ride height" nor would I consider it acceptable that a part doesn't work through the normal suspension travel range ... especially if it's not highlighted in the sales or installation documentation.

Have you checked the lateral location of the rear end? is it centered in the chassis? I have a BMR TA and have no issues on my car running Eibach Sportlines.

What I've determined so far is that I have 2 sets of mounting holes in the plates that mount to the axle ... others with the BMR TA say they only have one set of holes. It only fits using the holes that push the TA further to the left. I'm waiting for BMR to get back to me on that.

Latest from BMR ...

quote:
The inner set of holes are for aftermarket Ford 9" rearends. All aftermarket rears position the torque arm further over in the tunnel to make room for the larger carrier. The Ford 9" moves the torque arm over 3/4" so we make all brackets with this option just in case. The inner holes will not work on 10 or 12 bolts. I don't know why your torque arm is contacting the tunnel, this typically only happens on lowered car or cars with aftermarket rears. Rather than grind on the bracket and create a potential weakness, I would clearance the tunnel with a block of wood and a mallet. It doesn't take much effort, we do it all the time when we install them on lowered cars.

Looks like I may have to pull out a block of wood and a mallet

Whoa before you start hackin it up check the bump stops. YOur suspension could be bottoming out on hard turns. If so shave about an inch off of the stops if it still does it you may need to look into a different shock/spring set-up. hope this helps.

Art,
You have mail. Hopefully it won't get kicked back, there are quite a few files of pictures.
Bad news: My BMR Torque Arm has been hitting the tunnel of my Convertible, and that is with just regular driving!
Hope the info helps, let me know if you need more!
