Default Camaro vs. Corvette

So which is funner for the street a Camaro with some power upgrades, say 375 hp at the rear wheel or a stock Corvette?
Also with 375 to 400 hp at the rear wheel can a Camaro melt Stock rear tires in second gear with only the gas pedal? That has allways been my definition of adequate power.

I have had both and can tell you that in stock form, the Vette feels faster (both were 2000 models). That is probably due to gearing as the Vette has 3.42 and the Z28 has 3.23 gears (both A4's). After induction and exhaust mods, the Camaro feels just as fast as the Vette. It depends on what you want, it would take a lot of money to get a Camaro to handle like a Vette with that independent rear suspension. Both are fun though, Vette's get more looks too.

It all depends on your tires and gears. My mustang with 200rwhp can spin the tires in second tho...so I guess it fits your definition of adequate power.

I love my SS, but if I had the choice on a FRC.....I'd be rolling in the FRC.

Stock Corvette, C5, is 345 hp at the flywheel.
If you took a Camaro with some bolt-ons and got
375rwhp, that would most definately be more "fun"
than the corvette, IMHO.

My friend has a stock C5. I've not driven it, but
ridden in it for some fun. I'm partial to my Z28.

Automatic Corvettes come standard with 2.73 rear gears. 3.15 is the optional ratio. 3.42s are only available with the 6speed.

The Fbody auto comes with 2.73s standard, and 3.23s optional. 3.42s come with the 6 speed.

The Corvette is a bit lighter and that makes it feel faster.

How fun either is to drive is pure opinion.

A C5 is night and day compared to an F-body.
To compare the two is ridiculous--it's like comparing the Corvette to a Viper--both fast, but fundamentally different cars.
"funner", as you put it, is dependant on what you like in a car..
If given the option, I'd choose the Corvette without second thought...and it would NOT remain stock for long

Having driven both with the LS1 engine, I'd say the Vette hands down. The Vette is 300lbs lighter or so and you can tell this in every lane change etc. Vette inspires confidence right from the start driving in traffic, the Camaro being harder to see out of doesn't.

If $$$ isn't an issue, get the Vette.

On other Vette comment, the interior is more intamite, more up close and personal with the passenger than a Camaro or Firebird interior. In other words you don't want to be in a Vette with someone you don't like for any lenght of time. This is some what more bearable in a Camaro as the passenger seems futher away.

We've had both at the same time. Ended up letting the C5 go. We like to take road trips and the Corvette while handling great and being drop dead georgeous just wears on you for a long trip drive compared to the F-body. The run flats are a noise that you can't hide from, the seats can't recline to nap, there isn't the room to carry hidden luggage and still have an area for the Atlas/maps/camera/binoculars/pillow/individual CD's,etc.. Also driving the C5 on a trip or even around your own territory becomes problematic for ground clearance issues if the roads aren't good. Other issues that are C5 specific are things like the steering column lockup/seat memory amnesia/seat rails rocking/radio volume speed change couldn't keep up with road noise increase/cost of runflat replacements. This isn't to say that the C5 may not be just what you are looking for or would like best. Just for us we wanted something a bit more versatile and you're left with $$$ for customizing to your personal tastes. If it's real visual draw you are after and greater exclusivity, then an SS in an eye candy SOM or something rich like NBM is where we went. You can tell we're partial to those looks. The MMM 382 is the sleeper.

I would say both would be fun for the street. Heck any car with that level of power would be loads of fun but which would be more prudent?. My preference would be the Corvette platform for the following reason. The chassis handles power much better ie. , it corners flat, has active handling to aid driving in the wet, it's rear suspension is a superior design for the street and the brakes are much better. But that doesn't neccesarily mean I wouldn't modify both.

Both from the factory.....VETTE ALL THE WAY!!!

That said. Difference between a Z28 and a vette can be close to $25,000. A person can do A LOT to that Z28 for $25,000 and it will eat a that stock vette alive. I know....I'm getting there if I have not already passed it .
