Default lower car?

i know basicly everyone here will probably say to lower, but, does the car really look THAT bad as it sits? i want to lower, but, im hesitant to spend all that money (new springs, shocks, phb, ext...) for something that im not even sure of the difference it will make. i mean, i know it will sit lower, but, do you guys really think it makes THAT big of a difference in how good a car looks when its lowered? worth the money?

here's the car now.

thanks for any imput

It does not look to bad. It's hard to tell because your car is black and the tires tend to blend in. If you want you could always do the Koni's and stock spring set up. Sometimes referenced as the front perch or heater hose mod. I believe it lowers the car about 3/4". Try a search for the heater hose or lower front perch.

I couldn't stand the stock ride height of my WS6. It looked like a 4x4 truck. I finnally snapped one day and bought the springs. ($240) Then I bought everything else one piece at a time. I don't drive my car that often though, so I could do it over several months.

Chances are, if you're thinking about it now you will eventually do it. If you can't buy everything at once, at least buy the adjustable panhard rod with the springs. The rearend kicks out the drivers side of the car when you lower it. I haven't done the shocks yet, but it doesn't ride that bad.

It's not just looks, it's handling too. Drive a friends lowered car if you can compared to yours.

First of all, beautiful car. I agree that lowered cars look better, but any kind of lowering springs will increase ride harshness. The only way to lower it without incurring that liability is the Koni/heater hose mod mentioned above.

^^^^^^^

If your car is a daily driver I would highly discourage adding aftermarket springs

Either leave it the way it is (looks great) or do the Koni/stock spring 3/4" drop

"any kind of lowering springs will increase ride harshness."

Disagree 100%. You need the right dampeners to handle the springs.

your car will ride harsher than stock with any lowering spring and you may be able to use dampers to lessen the harshness but also if the car is a daily driver you will run into problems with ride height when you lower the car. i have a z28 that i lowered with the eibac sportline kit which lowered the car about 2.5 inches. the car looks sick, but it scrapes on everything and hits the bump stops on every bump. i do not recommend lowering your car any further than 1 inch if you plan on driving it a lot. your car looks great the way it is.

I did just notice that you live in Pa. When I was up there on the Power Tour I noticed your roads are a little rough. Even on the interstate the bumps were annoying. I don't have a problem driving mine around FL, but you may want to think about it if you live on crappy roads.

u are absolutely rite. my car sucks on PA roads, but i go to college in VA so i can escape the roads while i am at school. it is a night and day difference when driving in PA compared to VA since the car is so low and stiff.... so as said before "you may want to think about it if you live on crappy roads."

wow, i lost track of this thread and i assumed it fell to the bottom, guess not. lol. anyway, thanks for all the imput and comments guys. i do live in pa, and the roads do suck, but the car is my second car (although i drive it every day i can in the summer) and i dont really mind the harsh ride (one of my old cars was an 88 iroc on aftermarket springs, shocks, and poly bushings everywhere, so it wouldnt be anything new).

the only thing that really concerns me is my exaust, you cant see it in the picture, but it hangs damn low at the cats. right now i dont have any real problems scraping (unless i have to take some wild *** driveway or speedbump, and even then im normally good), but im scared that if i lower it much im going to start having issues with scraping. i think i might look into the hose mod thing, maybe just lowering the front and changing its stance alittle will help me.

IMO the car would definitely look way better lower. Now ask yourself how much lower you want to go and how much you would need to spend on springs and shocks, and do you want to improve the handling, etc. If your going for all out handling and don't want to scrape I'd say go with Hotchkis springs and Koni SA shocks (that is a sick setup and will greatly improve handling). That will drop you 1" and shouldn't be too bad for scraping, just take driveways on an angle and go slow, you know the drill. Or you can keep the stock springs and do the heater hose/lower perch mod w/ the Koni's for a 3/4" drop. In any case if your a fan of great handling you definitely want to upgrade the shocks & springs and I would go w/ the Hotchkis/Koni SA setup. If your more concerned with drag racing then don't get Koni's. Just my $.02.

Default Heater hose diameter

Guys,

I just installed the Konis in the front (lower perch) with stock springs and might do the rear tomorrow. I need to know what size (inside dianeter) heater hose I need for the rear coils though.

At only 2 clicks FROM full soft, the ride is noticeably firmer, yet comfy.

Thanks!

I lowered my T/A and I don't regret it. If it were my Formula I would lower it.
