Edelbrock torque arm arrived+
Alright all you fellow cheapskates...err...I mean value conscious shoppers...... what would you like to know? UPS man just brought the $169 Edelbrock torque arm.
It's .120 tublular steel with 3/16" thick flat steel truss, and 3/16" thick mounting bracket. Weighs 12 pounds. It looks pretty good, the welds are good, etc, appears to be very well made.
How well does it work, who knows? It may blow chunks, it may rock, it may be in between. I'm putting it on the car Saturday.
I'll take a pic real quick if somebody wants to post it for me.

It mounts just like the stocker, I bet it would work on a 12 bolt. I suck at posting pics.. ... but if somebody wants to volunteer I have 3 I can email. I'm sending them your way now gator...

Re: Edelbrock torque arm arrived+
dave post that sucker! i want to see it. i still have the stocker and dont know if it is worth it to put down 300 dollars like some of the bigger TQ arms available for these cars. this might turn out to be a very good alternative. but then again, i have a moser, so will it be able to mount like a stock one? it should since the stock arm is on there.

It's in. Took me about 2 and a half hours at a leisurely pace. Everything fit beautifully, everything you need is provided including decent instructions. Edelbrock has a nice little unit here for those that don't have boatloads of money and still want to upgrade.
Went for a test drive, no noise, rear feels much better, the rear feels like part of the car now instead of something floatin' around doing it's own thing. It seems to plant better on launch but there is only so much testing you can do on that with GSCs on, I'll track test it in a month or so. Wheel hop has been turned down another notch too.
My stock torque arm bushing was just pathetic, worn and very squishy. I know alot of guys say, the stock torque arm is fine for an A4, "I cut 1.50's on it, blah, blah, blah"....but I'll tell you this, if you are like me and have to mod around your mediocre driving skills , and if your car didn't come from the factory running mid 12's , this is a good item to add. I'm glad I did it.

Re: Edelbrock torque arm arrived+
Chuck, you have mail.
It uses the stock mounting bracket, you drill out the rivets and remove the stock pos bushing, they give you an Energy Suspension urethane bushing that fits perfectly.
The more I drive around with it the more I like it , this is a must do mod in my opinion, you'd be surprised how much the torque arm affects cornering and braking, in addition to launching of course.
If any of you readers out there don't have $169 for a torque arm, at least spend $18 for the bushing.

I agree on the bushing comment, but be sure to lube it good so the torque arm can move in and out.

Re: Edelbrock torque arm arrived+
It weighs 12 pounds, I haven't weighed the stock one but it seemed about the same.
It's not unbreakable I'm sure, but the stocker is stamped from 1/8" steel This one has to be at least 50% stronger in my opinion, 3/16" steel and .120 tubing.
One thing about it, it's not gonna flex, it'll break first. I'd be pretty pi$$ed if my $350 to $500+ torque arm broke...at $169, we'll give her a day in court....

Email the pictures to chuckb@1le.net and I will host them.
Does the Edelbrock use a stock mount & bushing, or do they replace either or both?
