Default G2 rod end installation ?'s

Okay, getting ready to replace my BMRs with G2 poly/rod LCA's. The instructions aren't real detailed, so I'm looking for confirmation on how to properly install these. I'm thinking rod end goes on the axle side and the little rubber "thingies" slip over the aluminum spacers to cover the heim joints once its all together. Sound correct? Is there any lube needed on the rod end?

Thanks.

you got it!

I believe that there is some sort of lube on the heim joint from the manufacturer. I thougt i read that somewhere. I didnt lube mine, and just snugged them down to about 80 ft lbs or so.

I hear people give different torque settings- remember they are not the stock lcas and rubber bushings, I think they require a different setting, but I havent had any problems.

make sure that they are both the same length, i took my stock lca, and put a big *** bolt through it till it mated up with the new lca beside it, adjust as necessary- and use some loctite- i used red, but im not sure if thats the right loctite for the amount of torque (used a big *** crescent wrench) that i applied.

you'll love em!

Use the regular torque setting for the bushing end on the body side.

Use the "tight as hell" torque value on the rod end.

Those rubber boots are to keep dirt out.

I went to NAPA and bought this nifty graphite lubricant that is in a spray can. I guess it has an alcohol propellent that evaporates and leaves the graphite in it's place.

I lubed the heck out of my rod ends. Couldn't hurt ...

Lefthander chassis primarily sells QA1 heim joints (the same heim joints that LG uses in his arms) and they market a lubricant specifically for use on heim joints. Its a spray lube and I've had good luck with it. The QA1's technically don't need lube, but they are heim joints, so they tend to dry out after being subjected to a lot of street use, so they sometimes have a tendency to start squeaking. This lube prevents that.

I picked up the same stuff at NAPA that mitchntx mentioned (thanks!). Planning on installing them today so we'll see <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />

I just installed my G2 LCA's and PHB, which was a pain by they way with bolts that have been on there for 108k miles. You should have gotten 2 rubber boots for every rod end. So if you got just LCA's you should have a total of 4.

Where can you buy this lubricant for rod ends?

I've been using a product called DGF 123 available at NAPA.

It's a dry graphite that has an alcohol based propellent. It sprays on the surface in liquid form, then the alcohol evaporates and leaves a nice coating of dry graphite.

Dry is good because it doesn't attract dirt which turns into sandpaper. Not good.

Would the poly bushings be ok to use with the DGF 123? Or would white lithium grease suffice?

I don't see why not ... grease is bad in an exposed environment
