Now granted I have no experience using clamps to lower a car, but IMHO is doesn't sound like a good idea, I gues to test to see how low you'd want to go you could go that route. And then change/cut springs.
Cutting coil spings is a very old practice, and IS safe no matter wht people say. I issue is HOW much do you cut, and of cousre I'd only recommend no more than one entire loop. I installed the SLP Eibachs in my SS, but knew that the front would be too high, so I cut half a loop off the front coils and got the stance EXACTLY the way I wanted it. It is an inexpensive route, just time consuming.
Replacing springs is the alternative, but I have found that most springs happen to lower the car 1/2" to 1" MORE than advertised so be careful on your choice of spring.
Oh there are picstures though my sig on my Red SS Convertible with cut springs.

Re: Cutting springs or adding spring clamps
I have been lowering cars <img border="0" alt="[Camaro]" title="" src="graemlins/camaro.gif" /> /trucks <img border="0" alt="[Truck]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_truck.gif" /> (13to be exact) for a long time now and can tell you 1 thing, when you cut your springs all you make is junk. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Razz]" src="gr_tounge.gif" />
When springs are made they are made to work as a whole not just a part. Meaning coils close to each other have a different rate then the part of the coil that is farther apart.
When you cut the coil you are taking out part of the “rate” that the spring was made to work with. simple as that

How long has the art of spring cutting been around? (About as long as cars have been around)
How long has the art of modifying Euro and Jap cars been around?? (~ 10 or so years)
Just becuase the folks into modifying their Jap and Euro cars is done to a distasteful extreme doesn't mean that a modification is "Rice" what STUPID FRIGGIN TERM!! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Mad]" src="gr_images/icons/mad.gif" />
OK let's look at it this way.
Are all big loud exhausts rice?
Are all lowered cars rice?
Are all auto graphics rice?
Are all racing stripes rice?
With your logic, the answer to all those questions is yes, so I guess ALL of our cars are rice. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Roll Eyes]" src="images/icons/rolleyes.gif" />
Climbing off my soap box.
Oh, and here is another one for you, how do you thing spring manufactures make their springs??
