Brake install?? Help please..
Hey, what all tools do i need to change out my brake pad's/rotors? Want to do this myself to save some $$!
Also, how to re pack bearings(if needed)
& do i need to glaze/turn new rotors?
Or just simply install them.? Am pretty good with tools, recently changed my Alt & water pump. No Prob! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />
Thanks guys!
Matt

Fourth gen cars have "sealed for life" wheel bearings unlike older models which had loose bearing components on a spindle. NEVER remove a seal, submerge the hub, try to add grease, etc - you will do much more harm than good.

Most new rotors come with a coating on them from the factory, its called cutting fluid. Make sure to get a can of brake cleaner and clean it off first. Other than that, a rotor and pad swap is simple! When compressing the piston in the caliper, keep an eye on the master cyl.. it could overflow <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" />

I have to agree with 94bird. I used the brake install documents found on installuniversity.com to do my very first brake job ever. The brake install document has excellent pics and lists all the tools you'll need. I was always afraid of doing my own brakes until I actually did it....they're a piece of cake! Definitely use the install documents!

Absolutely, do it yourself! I also used the install
university document to learn how to do it, and by
jove, it turned out well.
Yes, brake cleaner is a must, but I must say,
if the "hats" are painted, don't let the cleaner
get on them. Some of the paint got cleaned away
on mine, now I have rust! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Sad]" src="gr_sad.gif" />
So now I have to do it all over again to clean
and repaint the "hats".
May as well paint the calipers while I'm at it...

Re: Brake install?? Help please..
It took me about 2 hours to do all 4. Of course
I had a friend watching over me to tell me if I
was screwing something up.

Well ... I have air tools! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" />
It's quicker if you do just pads ... remove the wheel, take out the UPPER caliper guide pin bolt and pivot the calper down and the pads will pop out.

Re: Brake install?? Help please..
Did my brakes & rotors yesterday all the way around in a couple of hours!
Thanks guys again for the info!
you saved me a ton of money in labor! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Cool]" src="gr_images/icons/cool.gif" />
went with the Auto Zone (Aimco rotors)
My others along with my pads were cooked! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="gr_eek2.gif" />
