People put on 315/35/17 nittos because they run a tad smaller compared to other 315's. There's really no point in this at all except cosmetics. People have gone into the single digits with 275's so there really no point in buying tires that are more expensive IMO.

275/40/17 is stock size for 17x9 or 9.5

If you want a beefy "looking" drag radial go with BFG's.

A 275/40 regardless of the manufacturer is the biggest size that you can safely (and properly) run on a 17x9.

Don't run a 315 tire on a 9 or 9.5 wheel just to try and "look" cooler. You'll be wasting money you don't need to spend. The tire will still only have about as much contact as a 275 tire, and when you go to the track, people will walk by your car and whisper about how half-assed it looks.
