I believe its 17 x 9, I wanted to get the widest tire in a Nitto Drag Radial will fit. Im only putting them on the back. Its got 275/40/17 and thats just not wide enough. Plus I want to get the most traction for my car and wider is better.

ive seen a 335 35 17 on a 11 inch rim. you sure a 315 would work? Just wanna ask cuz i want a wide one also on my when it gets my 17s i got on the truck now

315s will bulge on stock wheels. I wouldn't do it. Looks goofy as hell to me not to mention that you really won't increase traction over a 275 since the contact patch will not be properly laid down.

If you're going to do 315s I'd go with 11" wheels.

Theres a guy on here named RTCamaroSS who has the 315s on his stock ZR1s and they seem to fit. Only thing is that you really aren't getting the whole tire on the ground.

Well if some of you say that it will look goofy or wont fit right, can someone tell me what the bigggest I can go...285/40/17 285/35/17 295/40/17 295/35/17 ???? If the 315/35/17 wont fit will the 295/35/17 work. I just want to have a bit bigger tire on the back than on the front. So help me out guys.

Need to purchase new tires ASAP! I need to know as quick as possible so that I can go purchase some Nitto's. Can someone please tell me what the biggest or widest tire that I can fit on the rear wheels of my SS. I believe theyre 17x9. Thanks

285/40/17 = 25.97" Just a little taller than stock (25.66".) This could work.
285/35/17 = 24.85" Too short, IMO.
295/40/17 = 26.29" A little too tall, IMO.
295/35/17 = 25.13" Just a little too short but could work.

With that wheel I think I'd go with the 285/40/17. Maybe go with the 295/35/17 if you want a little less overall gearing (still, something about having a shorter rear tire than the front that I just don't like.)

Differences in the same tire at different heights...say a 25.66 tire compared to a 25.13.

The taller tire will...

-Be slightly heavier.
-Give you less overall gearing which means it'll make your rpms slightly lower at a given speed (better gas mileage) but will give you slightly less TQ multiplication over the ground and thus slightly less potential for acceleration.
-Give you slightly better straight line traction.

You're talking about only slight differences in any of these regards.

So theres no point in even trying to determine what a shorter or taller tire will do if Nitto only offers a 275 and a 315. So then I should just stay with a 275/40/17. Is that gonna make any difference in hooking matters from a worn out Goodyear HP to a drag radial. Am I gonna notice that it stick better. Cause right now I can chirp through 3rd. Do you have to heat these tires up to stick?

I have them on 17 x 11 wheels myself, but I have seen them on the 17 x 9 and they don't look that bad ! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Cool]" src="gr_images/icons/cool.gif" />

The difference between regular radials and drag radials is a whole nother world! There is no comparison.

In warm weather they hook good (better than a regular radial tire) even without heating them up but, they still hook WAY better when they're hot. In cold weather, heating them up is pretty much mandantory if you're putting any kind of power to them.

When you heat the nitos up dont over do it, ive seen people over do it and only have 5 burnouts on the tires <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="gr_eek2.gif" /> . Just spin em till you can see smoke for 1-2 seconds, any more is too much. If you chirp in 3rd gear with the nitos you wont anymore. <img border="0" alt="[cheers]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_cheers.gif" />

I was just looking into the same tires on wed. this guy are race team deals with told me the widest I would want to go with is a 295 I could go with a 305 but like previouisly posted once you light them up your only getting so much of a traction area equivlant to a 295 anyway...you should run a wider rime like the 11" ss wheel....

I personally as well as a couple other of my friends cars have hooked up alot better with a bfgoodrich drag radial as opposed to the nitto the nitto is better to see alot of street though because of the tread pattern but the the bfgs just hooked alot harder

I have 17x9.5 Z06 wheels and im wanting to run a wide tire on the rear...does the 275/40 look good??/ All ive ever run is the Mickey Thompson ET Streets and they have never let me down..Even on the street they hook lol...Im jus wanting a lil beefy look in the rear..Need some wide tires so how do the 275/40s look?? Personal opinions...
