Default Torque arm front mounting location difference? LG vs Spohn

OK...I have been looking into getting a torque arm for my '02 SS and I have hit a snag. I am interested in both the Spohn and the LG...I have yet to see Spohn's quality and am very pleased with my LG parts. But my main question is....what is the difference, performance/steet wise, with mounting on the tranny or relocating to a frame mounted brace? Which is best in most practical cases? I do not race, might once or twice, but its more for fun on the street and in the twisties. It would be great to hear from LG on why they left it on the tranny and didnt move it. Thanks for any help you guys can give me.

OK, a Spohn is not going to help in the twisties at all. due to the shortness of it, the instant center is going to change quicker, making the car a little more unpredictable.

The LG was meant for the twisties, with the ability to cut mid 1.4 60's in a full weight 3625# M6!

With the mount on the tail shaft, the TA is a bit longer. GM was not stupid when they built a long TA. We just refined their part making it lighter, stronger, and better with out adding any complexity to it. Bolt on and go!

On top of all that, the LG is being offered at a 25% discount right now in the Sponsor section!

It's been awhile since I discussed it w/ Lou, but IIRC, the LG arm stays mounted to the side of the tranny because there's no good reason to remove it from there (Lou said that he'd never heard of a tranny case cracking, etc... because of the TA mounting location), and because the engineering resources at one of the world's largest car companies designed the suspension to work as a system with the torque arm mounted to the side of the tranny. Makes sense to me, though that may not be the official answer.

Another thing worth noting about ALL LGM parts is that they are designed and built the way they are for a reason: because that is what they have found to work the best for them (for the type of racing that they have traditionally done). Of course, like I said, that's probably not the official answer but that's the kind of no-nonsense approach that I think appeals to Lou.

Thanks for the help guys, I talked to Lou on the phone tonight and I am sold. Gonna order me some LCA's, springs, and a torque arm tomarrow. Lou's was a big help and explained everything I needed to know. Thanks LG for great support.

You will have to clearance the housing. Most grind the critical area on the TA, and that causes a weak spot. With the housing, there is enough material to take of an 1/8" thats all you need to do!

Thanks for the response Lou. Where on the housing do you have to grind? I may get this to go with my new G2 LCAs and PHR.

Yet more good news, flexibility is key. Now I just have to wait for my next credit card billing cycle to start. I love christmas.
