Default Baer Alcon Extreme+ question

I am thinking of dropping the coin on this kit. I know its a 6 piston caliper and zinc washed, cross drilled, slotted rotor and comes with all of the bells and whistles but does anyone have any experiance with it? Is there that much of a dramatic change in stopping distance on our cars? I will be using this in an open road application at VERY high speeds so I am wondering if this kit would be the one to go with.

i do not know much about breaks but for some reason peole saying that cross-drilled breaks are not good when you break alot, they can crack?
Anyone wanna explain ?

yes they do have a tendancy to crack and break under hard braking. The cross drilled rotors that are made with the holes in them are better, but there was only one place that did it that way if I remember right, and it didn't help a whole lot.

The reason they tend to crack is because when they are drilled it create stress risors around the holes, these when heated up and clamped tend to crack. I can dig up some pics if you'd like.

Now I know this isn't autocrossing, but from the speeds you're looking at you can apply some of the same rules, they brake frequently, we would be braking from high speeds semi frequently, and would be on the breaks longer, both of us heating up the brakes ALOT. They would soak up more heat at one breaking period and I believe have just as big of a tendancy to crack because of it.
Directing a brake duct would be a good idea, it would help some, even with some good brakes. You may want to look at seeing if there is a flat rotor available, or if you really want something that looks fancy you could go with a slotted, I haven't seen any of those crack before (I'm not saying they don't though)
Have you looked at other setups....like the porche kit? It's 1500 but is suppose to be one of if not the best kit out there.
I've also seen some one offs where there were two calipers per rotor, they were suppose to stop amazingly well too.

As far as the ducts go here are two sites that have done it, each in a different way, the naca ducts are better for several reasons, all of which are stated in the site

Hope this is of some help

Very good summery by v7guy. There isn't much more that I can add to this but I have run the Alcon kit for over a year and it is a night and day difference over the stock brakes. Installation is easy and they really bring the car down from high speed. I put these to the test one night while coming up on the only car on the road at 2am. Don't know what he was thinking but he started to drift into my lane while I was coming up on him at about 2 1/2 times his speed (160+).

We had a GP that ended on Tuesday but I let go until tomorrow so everyone can get things straight after Xmas. E-mail me at tbyrne@tbyrne.com if you might want to get in on this.

They have a few options available -

Upsize Pro+ or EXT+ system to 14" rotors - $89.99

Upsize Pro+ system to 14.9" rotors with 10" hats - $499.99

Upsize Extreme+ system to 15" rotors with 10" hats - $499.99

All prices are per pair and the cost is an upgrade on top of the cost for the package.

check out the pro speed kit http://www.prospeedmotorsport.com/
i had almost pulled the trigger on a very nice four piston kit (just as good as a 6 pot kit - 6's are overkill) w/ Brembo calipers or Ferrari F40 calipers and 2 piece rotors (hat and rotor) w/ Alcon rotors (top of the line) for less than the Pro+ kit from Baer. before you spend this kind of money, at least get w/ micheal @ pro speed and talk to him.
i ended up going w/ the basic kit for the f-body.

If it is repeatable braking ability from high speed then yes you will need to upgrade. I've had my hybrid kit now for three years . It has been flawless to say the least. I have no need yet for brake ducting with this setup.

Nata,
I'm going to suggest once again that you strongly consider either the Mov'it kit, or the Prospeed kit. The cross drilled rotors are actually cast in instead of drilled later. These are the only rotors I know of that can say this. They've got twice the cooling vanes that other rotors have. They have track proven records, and are reasonably priced ... especially the prospeed kit.

I would second the Movit or Prospeed kit. Parts availability is right at your local Porsche dealer or Internet supplier. Plus the wad of different brake compounds is endless.

Don't buy before you check these out. I've got the Prospeed kit with several lapping days on it already and I can't say enought good about the system.

I would have purchased the Movit system but the Prospeed was so much cheaper at the time. Give them a call. Both Steve(Movit) and Michael(Prospeed) are very helpful.

Just went to the Ultimate garage to check on some items. What do I find? My car as the poster child for fbodies. Cool beans. <img border="0" alt="[cheers]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_cheers.gif" />
