Default "Low trac" light comes on, but no TCS?

I don't have a TCS button in my 98 T/A, but I have seen on the dash a "low trac" light come on, what is the deal with that? Do I have TCS or not?

If you can do a proper burnout in your car, you do not have TCS (it won't let you)....that's the easy way to tell. Are you getting this light when you are really hard on the brakes? Or, is it when you have any tirespin as well? I am guessing that you are getting this warning from the abs system and it may work on acceleration as well (any tire slippage, accelerating or braking). I have TCS and even when I turn it off, I get a low trac light if I am spinning the tires as well as if I use the brakes hard and engage the abs system. I suspect that you are seeing the same thing. Good luck.

I just started driving the car Friday. The light only comes on when I spin the tires, I haven't seen it on under braking yet. Thanks.

My friend's `98 SS does that if he downshifts hard (M6) and barks the tires. Both our cars' "low trac" light comes on it we get into the ABS.

Low Trac Light doesn't have anything to do with TCS nor ABS. It just monitors each wheel and if for some reason (spinning or sliding) one wheel is moving faster than another wheel, you will get the "Low Trac Light". Just a sort of waring light to notify you of the conditions.
