Default Tall Drivers with Rollcages

Hey guys i have a couple questions, im looking at getting a 6 point rollcage for my 99 SS, but all the cars i sat in with rollcages i felt really cramped cause the seat only would tilt back so far..My question is, what do most of the taller drivers with rollcages do? just deal with it? Or do u think with an aftermarket racing seat i will be able to tilt the seat back more..im 6'5 and 280..

Ide like to know too. I have a 3rd gen...but things are close enough. Im 6'4 235...and I like my seat back pretty far. Im always worrying about the main hoop distance from the helmet. If I try to keep that in spec, the main hoop might be in the back seats! haha.

Ive had a lot of people tell me oh its fine...im 6'xx and I fit fine etc etc... But I dont want to find out they are full of it after I weld in bars all over.

One idea I had...adn it all depends on whats legal/safe. Can the main hoop be tilted back at all?? Maybe with two additional angled bars going from the main hoop down to the floor from front to back. If you could tilt the main hoop back a bit, then you could have it positioned in a good spot on the floor, but still gain the clearance behind the seat. Im not talking 45* now...I mean just a few degrees to aid in space.

Im going to keep my eye on this thread for ideas!!

I'm 6'4" and weigh 210. I have Corbeau FX1 seats and a Wolff 5 point. My plan had been to mount the seats low and angled to increase my room. Well, there were some issues. The crossbar in the main hoop prevented the seat from moving back too far and the shape of the seat required a certain angle (more upright than I wanted) for the side bar to clear. It worked out ok for me but not how I really had hoped. If I was any taller, I would do as ghettocruiser suggested and have the main hoop angled back a bit to provide an extra inch or two up top. This of course, means somewhat of a custom roll bar/cage (buy the weld-up version). Set the main hoop up and then mount the seat where you want it. Add the rear support bars next and the side bars last.

LGM's roll bar has a curved cross bar behind the driver's seat to accomodate taller drivers.

A custom main hoop along with a crossbar that will allow the seat to slide back furthur paird up with a good aftermarket seat that lets you sit low in the car is what your looking for.

Ha, same here.

A custom cage shouldnt cost too much at all compared to an off the shelf cage. I was quoted 500 bux installed for a 4pt with a diagnal brace.

I've been looking into this myself. I'm not quite as tall as you guys (6'2"), but I just want a tight fitting cage. I really can't afford the 2k+ price tag a custom cage carries either. I'm going to try one from a company called auto weld chassis...thier cages are supposed to fit tight, so maybe I will luck out.

Aftermarket seats will definitely improve your headroom. Make sure you get one that fits comfortably and allows you to get in/out of the car with relative ease, or a seat that you can adapt to using on a daily basis. I'm getting a custom 4-point rollbar installed next month along with a Kirkey Deluxe Roadrace seat. If you are going to RR or AX the car, you should definitely contact a competent chassis shop in your area for seat fitment, harness mounting issues, and rollbar installation info.
