steering wheels shakes when braking from higher speeds
when I say higher, i really only mean 60+... and just mild braking will cause the steering wheel to vibrate.
the car doesn't shake so I assume it's not the brakes? is it the alignment? tires? anyone have insight to this?
thanks
Ron

check ur rotors and/or pads...my rotors were gone (warped) when i bought my car and the whole front end would want to dissasemble itself everytime i hit the brakes going anything over 60mph...time to get new rotors and dont get drilled/slotted ones in the front..they tend to suck more *** than the blank ones lol at least in my experiences-ive gone through like 3 sets of rotors already, yea i know

Have your brakes checked. I had the same symtoms you are describing. My steering wheel would shake while braking between 50 and 80 mph. After reading some threads here I was convinced I had warped rotors. I took the car in last week for routine tire rotation and alignment. I explained to them about the shaking and they inspected my brakes. They told me my front pads were basically down to bare metal, they measured my rotors and they said they were fine. So I had new ceramic pads installed and the rotors resurfaced. And guess what? The shaking is gone. So take it in and have a shop inspect your brakes. Its probably either your pads and or rotors, either way make sure you fix the right problem.

if only the steering wheel, and not the car is shaking, why would it be the brakes and not something else?

I don't care if you did put new brakes on, its the rotors. They don't always make the entire car shake. Matter of fact 90% of the time its only the steering wheel unless you really bad off on brakes.
If you tires were unbalanced they would shake without the brakes. So eliminate that from the list. It is possible to get a rotor that is a little off. That should be the first place you look.

I would look at rotors first, floater pins 2nd, and tie rod ends 3rd.
TO many people dont do a proper brake job because they're just replacing pads. There is more to it than that. Look at the floater pins and make sure they move freely. That could be the only trouble right there.

Either get the powerslots or get Baer. I used powerslots and never had an issue with warpage. I even sold them with pads for over $300 used.
I now have Baer and thats that. No need to worry about anything but pads.

Trust us man its the rotors. Ever buy anything electronic and have it come out of the box not working? If not I've had it happen enough to make up for your good luck.
Sometime new stuff just isn't perfect.

This never happened with my T/A, but when I bought new rotors/pads for my daily driver I went through 2 sets of brand new rotors because they were warped to begin with. Ended up milling the 2nd set down just a bit and that fixed the issue, no more steering wheel shake for me. They are still on my car and working great after 20K+ miles. Check out your rotors man. Oh, and I warped all 4 original rotors on my T/A at 13,000 miles.
