Default Doing brake job this weekend.

So my squeling front brakes have got to go.

I'm gonna go pick up some pads and rotors that are better then OEM this weekend to do the job.

What all do I need. I know I need pads and rotors. I already have a chilton's Anything else?

I'm only doing the front because I don't have the money to buy the rear too.

Other than a can of spray brake cleaner, that's it. You should be good to go.

Large C-clamp to compress the piston back in to the caliper.

Get a bottle of disc brake lube/quiet. There are different products but there is one that is both a anti-squeal and a grease.

Gotta clean them caliper sliders up and lube the guide areas for the pads.

Use the brake cleaner on the rotors too, they come coated.

Good a time as any to paint calipers / rotor hats / wheel barrels.

Those are for looks. I'm looking for stopping power.

Unless of course you want to buy me a brand new brembo brake kit and ship it to me.

I will be your bestest best friend.

Pretty much everything you need to know right here.

http://www.installuniversity.com/ins...ds_mwarren.htm

If you don't have any oscillation in the pedal then no need to turn or replace the rotors.

Crossdrilled rotors are generally considered driveway jewelry...

Same as with tires. The more surface area you touch the better your grip. Thats why in racing they use slick tires. Well smooth (slick) rotors are better for stopping power because there is more area to grip.

Look at the rotors of real race cars. I bet they are smooth.

Is there a certain type of grease that is needed to be used on the guide pins? I'm planning on doing my brakes next weekend.

The pads come with some "no squeel" I forgot to use it. Rotor rubs a bit. Not all the time though. I'm gonna pull it back off and check again tommorow morning.

I didn't use anything special. The c-clamp is a must!

i just used normal grease on them, didn't think it would take anything to special. Needing to do mine again, thinking of ditching the slotted rotors and just going with normal rotors and hawk pads and seeing how that goes.

I didn't get to take it apart Sunday morning because of the earthquake lol!

Well the scraping went away on its own. lol. I guess one of the pads was crooked kind or something and it just needed some driving to get them into the right place.

I've talked to a few other people and they said that sometimes your brakes will make that sound right after you do the job. As long as its a light scrape your cool and as long as it goes away after 50 miles or a couple days of light driving.

You WILL know when you fucked up because the scraping will get louder if you really messed something up.
