Default What kind of rack and pinion?

I used the search function but i didnt find the answer i was looking for. I have a 98 camaro LS1 and i need to change my rack and pinion. I need to know how to determine if i have the "sport/firm" setup or the "soft" setup on my car. I guess the problem lies with the angle of the steering shaft in relation to the rack itself. I read something about there being a 2 1/4 turn and a 2 3/4 turn of the steering wheel being the indicator of the type of rack the car has. And I was wondering to do this test do you center the steering wheel and then turn it to one side seeing how many revolutions it takes to lock out? Sorry for the rant i am just confused and have already ordered a rack from the parts store, they r shipping it (soft rack setup) to me and i would like to know if i would need the "sport" version. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
