Its ok to replace only 1 side If the replacement is the same as stock, and the remaining working caliper is perfectly fine. This means that the piston boots, caliper guide pins/boots are perfect.

By the way, now would be a great time to bleed all the calipers =) Make sure to not let all of the brake fluid drain when you take the old caliper off.

dont ask me how, but my caliper fell off on the freeway as i was going to work, had the car towed, but the brake line tore off and it has been leaking....what happens if all the fluid leaked out????what more damage do i have with in the breaking system....as for now, i have to replace the caliper, wheel, tie rod end, brake line.

Replace your caliper and line. No problems with the rest of the system as long as you didn't try to use it after you stopped on the highway.

Bleed the entire system. You want to do this anytime the system is allowed to be exposed to air, for a variety of reasons that are immaterial to your current plight.

Bolt up the new caliper, secure the new line and bleed as normal. No worries.

If you let the master go dry you will go through hell trying to get them to bleed correctly. Thats why everyone always recommends to keep it topped off when doing brake work. You should have put some vicegrips on the end of the rubber hose that broke to stop the leaking. =(

Is the master cylinder empty? Pour some fluid in there right now if it is. Yes just reattach everything to pre-falling off status, pour more fluid in the master and start your bleeding process. Add fluid to the master as you go. The upside to this is new good fluid throughout the system makes a big difference in pedal feel.

dont let anyone bullshit you.. brakes ARE the most important things in your vechile.. and understanding them is even more important.. so understanding that they work as a system.. theres ALWAYS something about the system that we dont like.. and no matter what we do we have to follow it.. and replacing one side will deff **** your **** RIGHT up.. save the money and buy a dope setup.. there is plenty of them on the market..

replacing only 1 side wont **** anything up. If you want you can disassemble the other one and buy a rebuild kit from GM. All you do is replace the o-rings on it.

There is no reason to spend money on better brakes unless you arent satisfied with your current brakes. If you arent that by all means do it. I myself am doing the C6 Z51 brakes on my T/A.

I will agree with Big_D on brakes being the most important part of the car.
