Default Popping noise/jerking from car when turned all the way left or right

I posted this in General too since I'm not sure where it belongs, but I'll post it here too just in case:

The title pretty much says it all. When I turn my cars wheel all the way left or all the way right and move it, it moves for a second or two and then lurches (well, the front of the car jerks) + makes a popping noise. It feels like the rim is coming off or something it moves so much, but I know that is not the case. Anyone have any experience with something like this happening? It's really worrying me!

Thanks

How much did it cost to fix? While I would normally volunteer to change anything on my own, I am in the Air Force for tech school in Texas and don't have access to a shop or anything

Also, how serious is this? How long can I go without worrying about my wheels falling off?

I did it myself so it wasnt much it did it for awhile so I dont think its that serious just try not to turn the wheel very sharp if you dont have 2.

Hrm ok. It says on autozone there is an upper ball joint and lower ball joint? Which would I need to replace, or both?

Yeah, no real answer yet, at least in my case. It's not the outer tie-rod ends (replaced them), or the upper control arm bushings or upper ball-joint (checked those pretty good when I had it apart). That leaves the lower ball-joint & lower control arm bushings as far as I can tell, but I haven't done a thing with either yet.

Precisely my point, plenty of problem posts. No real answers.

take it to a shop, and have them check out the suspension, make sure to tell them your problem. this way you'll know whats bad and what isn't so that your not just throwing money and parts at the car and not fixing the problem. most places do suspension checks for free and then will come up with an estimate of what it will cost to fix.

When I had my car in for an alignment, I mentioned the popping sound to the shop and they said they would check out the entire front suspension regardless. They verified what I already knew (a bad outer tie-rod), and they stated it was possible that the tie rods could have made the pop because of their poor shape, but it was not common for them to make this kind of sound. Other than that they could find nothing else wrong while on the alignment rack. What I'm getting at is that these intermittent sounds can be difficult to diagnose because they can't be reproduced at will. If it could, I'm pretty sure I would have solved the mystery by now.

Well, this is real dumb. Ironically, I just created a thread on this ... prob not the same problem, but, it wouldn't hurt to check. My car sounded like the wheel bearings were about to go when I would turn my wheels left or right while coming to a stop. Then, I notice a loud noise like rubber rubbing and almost a letal-to-metal-like grinding noise . Then, I noticed it was coming from the rear instead of the front. I put 'er up on ramps today and lubed the after-market P/L bar and LCA's and it all went away.

You was just hearing the unlubed poly bushings makes a crunching like sound.

I hear the same popping sound when I turn or hit bumps. I replaced the tie rods, lower ball joints and the steering rack(had a leak) with no change.

I decided to tighten the front sway bar down and the noise changed. I think it has something to do with those poly bushings. I'm gonna take the sway bar off and see if the noise goes away.
