Default Installing struts

What's required? How hard are they to do? Do they require any specialized tools to install? Any help would be great!

It pretty easy, the strut top mount bolts are under the hood and the bottom ones are on the lower control arm. Once you pull the wheel off you can see how it will come out.

Things to keep in mind:

Top shock nuts can often be seized. I was lucky though and didn't have this problem.

The master cylider can be slid out of the way to access the torq bolt on the drivers side better. So there will be less likely you will strip it. Mine was stuck anyway and the bolt needed to be cut.

I didn't need the pickle fork. I just smacked the bottom of the spindle bolt with a hammer.

Spring compressers can be rented at Autozone for free basically. You pay 40 bucks to keep them as long as you want and then when your done, return them for a full refund.

I had to use an impact gun to break loose the nut on the top of the front struts. Other than that it was pretty easy.

I just did mine last week and wish i had an impact to do that. I suggest if it is rusted and wont break loose, get the impact out or take it somewhere to use an impact. I spent a good 2.5-3 hours screwing with one last week. Then finally gave up myself and went for a little ride, so i could use an impact, and it came right off! I was so pissed!!! Also when putting the new ones together i just used an impact to tighten the new nut down on top, instead of screwing with the stupid spring compressors. Other then that like they said it was a pretty easy install.

Save yourself some hassle and take the struts to NAPA to have them changed over. Cost me $28 for both. Quick, easy and NO hassle of messing with it myself.

I agree. The strut spring compressor from autozone is a bitch to use in my opinion. Luckily i had access to a wall mount compressor

Also make sure the shock nut is screwed all the way down until it stops. There should be maybe 10 threads showing. Then coat them with grease to make sure they don't get rusty again.
