The is the most PITA mod I have ever done. I have flared these ends 3 or 4 times and it is still leaking. The flare tool wing nut just stripped and it is about to drive me CRAZY!!! Anyone else have this many problems??

are you double flaring? make sure the flare is straight on the tube, not crooked.

Yeah I am. That has been one of the problems. The flaring tool that comes with the kit will try and flare it crooked no matter what you do. I mean I have done the last few pretty good and it still leaks. I have had one of my buddies try it and it still leaked. Now the wing nut has stripped out and I can't try any more tonight. I will have to get a new nut or rent the tool from Autozone. I don't know man. I have actually gotten it down to, I think, one spot that leaks. I guess I'll just have to keep trying until it stops leaking....hopefully it will be soon.

okay, so I talked with Steve at SJM(Very helpful guy by the way. Top Notch) and I think I may know what I am doing wrong now. I have been using a pipe cutter to cut the brake lines. I am going to go home and use a cutoff wheel tonight and see if that gives me better results. i didn't realize that the pipe cutter was distorting the lines like it was. Hopefully that will be the issue. I will update the thread once I get it figured out.

I cut mine with a pipe cutter. I had problems with a couple little leaks, but it was just the nuts not being completely tight. Are you sure its the flares that are doing it?

Yes. It is the flares. They are not seating at all in the union fittings. I was told not to use a pipe cutter because it actually decreases the diameter of the line and so far hasn't cut the lines with a good even cut. I am going to try a cutoff wheel and see how that goes.

Well I used the cutoff wheel and flared all of the ends again and so far no leaks. I bled the brakes and still no leaks so maybe I am good now. We will see. Now I just have to make sure the proportioning valve is right.

Glad to hear it worked out for you. Thank you for the compliments.

Just a side note, when you adjust the proportioning valve, be sure not to try to adjust it by just stomping on the brakes. If you depress the brakes until your wheels lock, no matter where you set the valve, the brakes will more then likely lock.

Thresehold braking will work better for making your adjustments.

The valve is not a set-it and forget it item. It should be adjusted for different brake combinations, tire combinations etc. so that you get the most out of correctly biasing your brake pressures.
