Default Lowering Collector Edition

I am going to lower my CETA. I have TTII's (centers coated gun-metal)with 17x11/315's in the rear. I was thinking of the Eibach Pro-Kit and BMR Adj. Panhard rod and Relocation brackets. Anything else I should be thinking about with this?

Also, how do you guys think this will look?

Oh, I was also going to do the calipers in yellow at the same time.

Thanks for the input.

With 17" x 11" wheels and a Prokit you are asking for trouble. Too low. My friend' SS with 17" x 11" and the SLP Eibach Springs the wheel well makes contact with the tire.

On my Berger SS with the Prokit, The passesnger rear quarter panel is contacting the tire and cutting it up.

I thought that the 11's might be an issue. I did read in one of these posts that there is a way to lower the car ever so slightly with the stock springs. Is this true, or are there other options out there for lowering the car some, but not as much as the Pro-kit, in order to avoid the rubbing.

Thanks
Paul

The 'birds seem to have a little more room in the rear wheel wells. You can make 17x11s work on a lowered car, if you have:
1. a +50mm offset on the rims
2. an adjustable panhard bar to center the axle

I've actually rolled the lip of my wheel well to make sure I don't have any contact, but I'm not convinced this was necessary...

good luck,
Shane

Thanks Shane. I agree that I have heard the "Birds" are a little more generous on spacing. Thanks for reminding me of that. However, I know the TTII's (that I already bought)have a 46mm offset on the rear 17x11 wheel. I should have ordered the custom TTII's with +50mm. Does the lowering package make a difference as to the amount of offset? I wouldn't think so as the offset is the measurement of depth, not height, or am I not making sense?

What springs are you running?

I persaonnly say look for a spring that is advertised to drop 1". Through personal expereience I have noticed that springs seem to lower a car ~ 1/2" more than advertised.

Hotchkis sells a 1" lowering kit. I am personally running the SLP Performance Parts Level 1 Eibach Springs and am pretty happy with the drop.

As for Yellow calipers, my only thought would be you need to be careful on the "shade" of yellow. If they do not closely match the body color of the car I think they may look wierd. Black or charcoal grey may be a good "Safe" choice.

Now your other question in your last post, the "offset" is only related to how the wheel is going to be placed "in" the wheel well. A 46mm offset is going to put the wheel further out of the wheel well compared to a 50mm wheel, thus with a lowered car would increase the changes of the tire contacting the wheel well lip. If you go with the Prokit and the wheels as you describe, I can say you will have contact problems, and will have to roll the fender lip. Like I said before, my Berger wil the prokit, and 37mm offset 17" x 9.5" wheels the rear tire hit the body work, nad is f'ing up my tire.

You sound like you know a lot about lowering, so I want to make sure I understand all you've said correctly. 1) The Eibach Pro-kit will be too low. 2)Look for a kit that advertizes a 1" drop. Will that be enough less than the pro-kit drop to not cause me problems with the 11" wheels? 3)You are running the SLP level 1 Eibach springs, and are happy. Is this the same car you are having the rubbing with, and does the 1 in "Level 1" stand for 1"?

Thanks for all you advise.

My knowledge with lowering my car(s) is through expierence only. First off I own two Camaro SS right now - so maybe that is confusing since I am actually talking about two completely different cars.

Number one is a Bright Rally Red Convertible SS that I modify by myself, I have installed the SLP Performance Parts Level 1 Eibach springs in my SS. As for what the "1" truely stands for I do not know, but the springs do lower the car ~3/4" to 1". As a side note I went one step further, I wanted the front of the car to sit about 1/2" lower in the front (more) so I cut half a loop off the front spring. I am running 18" x 9.5" w/ 275/35YR18 front and 18" x 10.5" w/ 295/35YR18 rear with absolutely NO problems. Here is a recent pic.

My other SS is a Berger SS that is lowered with the Eibach Prokit, this car is the one that I am having problems with the passenger side rear tire making contact woth the body of the car. I am still running 17" x 9.5" wheels but the offset is pretty small so the wheels are pushed out a little more than stock, but not as far as an 11" wheel. Here's a pic.

I hope this helps. I see you are from Chi Town. Are you in Chicago proper or more of a suburb?

I actually live in Chicago, on the North side, about 1 1/2 miles from Wrigley Field.
