Default Front End Clunk - Need help - MA Inspection soon!

There is a strange clicking sound coming from the front driver side “area” when I brake at certain times and almost always when I brake in reverse. It sounds like its brake related but that’s because the only way to slow to a stop quickly is with the brakes, of course. I haven’t looked under there yet but plan to check the ball joints, both sides, just in case. I’ll grease everything with a fitting and check over my 1 year old complete brake rebuild for mistakes but what else should I be looking at? Should I regrease the sleeves on the caliper bolts? Maybe I didn’t put enough on? I though I read a while back this was a common step to miss.

Anyone ever had this problem? I have a MA state inspection due very soon and if anything sounds or looks funny, I fail. I hate the way MA inspects cars.

Thanks I'll check the tie rod ends and the shock nut. I already checked the ball joints. I always check the ball joints before inspection.

VIP1 if I had to guess I'd say your name is Dave but I think I knew that already.
