Default Is aftermarket TA needed?

I have new BHD shocks, rod/poly LCA, PHB, Strano bars, new tires on a 99 F-body street car.

These mods greatly reduced wheel hop and the car corners MUCH better!

On rare occassions, I get a rude shudder from the gear box upon hard acceleration. The tranny and motor mounts are good (tranny mount is poly, motor mounts = stock).

I assume this is a form of (1) wheel hop or (2) torque arm flex or (3) both.

Will an aftermarket torque arm fix this issue?

I always autocrossed my 2002 Z28 with a stock TA (on Hoosier 315/35-17's even) and had very few issues, if any. I'm not saying that you shouldn't upgrade the TA, just that many of us have been racing on the stock ones for quite some time. If you don't break it, it seems to work well in many applications. It very well could be flex. Wheel hop will flex the torque arm as a natural resonance of the wheel hop.

So, TAs have limited benefit for street cars?

I would say they significantly increase your traction potential with the right set-up--even on the street.

I don't think it would guarantee a fix. I get the same things sometimes. Also, regarding my previous post, I'm running more of a drag set-up (Spohn body mounted) and that's what I was referring to as far as traction.

It could..... That's a sign of some axle tramp, and the stock TA can allow some wind-up. Nothing in life it 100% certain, and it seems that this doesn't always happen. But it wouldn't either. Generally hopping/tramp/whatever your choice of term is when things move. Traction bars on leaf springs help control spring wind-up. Well, TA's can wind-up too... which is basically flex and when it wants to spring back, the result can be a tramping or hop. To me axle tramp is just a mild form of axle hop which is when it's really bouncing around.

Do I think a TA would help? I do.

OK - thanks Sam

I have an early set of FLP LT headers and Y-pipe.

Can I go with the transmission mounted adjustible 2205 TA, and 2207 relo kit?

Thanks.

Shouldn't be any issue unless the Y-pipe is a lot different than the norm....
