I believe you're going to want to make sure the TA reads nearly the opposite of what you have now. For example: -2.0* at the flat spot on the TA and 0.0* on a flat spot on the driveshaft. Basically, you'll want the TA to be at about 2.0* LESS than the driveshaft.

I think I explained that right...

so as long as the driveshaft measures 1-3* LESS than the rear, it's good? the actual numbers don't matter at all?

I just installed my umi ta yesterday, the part about the vehicle needing to be level isnt necessary. I had my rear on stands and my ds angle measured about 3-3.5* and the flat spot on the ta was about 5.5* just take the difference of the two, making sure your pinion points down a lil more compared to the ds. Does that make sense? Niether really need to be a perfect 0* like the instructions say, just take the difference.

ben.... the u need to put the angle finder on the bottom of the ta mount where it mounts to the rearend.. then adjust frm there. with having a six speed i would adjust it to -3... if it sets at 0 it will ruin your ujoints

edit..... its the pinion angle that u want not the angle of the ds or the ta.

Like he said we have a video on our front web page that will demonstrate step by step how to check pinion angle.

I'm pretty sure the car has to be level, my angles changed when I jacked the front up level with the rear. From that point things got a lot simpler adjusting it. BMR's vid is pretty helpful, check it out.

yeah i got it. i kinda knew what i was doing to begin with, but the UMI instructions i have were kinda vague and threw me off as did some other people's advice on here.

i set the car up level with suspension loaded and turned the TA adjuster until it and the driveshaft were reading the same angle, i.e. i "zeroed" it out. then made the pinion 2* negative from the DS. i checked the crank pulley and it matched the DS, the car still has a little low RPM surge to it, so i'll go back and try 1* or 3* and see what happens.

thanks again for your help fellas

Pinion angle is tough to explain. Give Jerry a call in tech, he will be glad to help.
