How would I know if I had air in my brake system?

How would I know if I had air in my brake system?
I disconnected my calipers a little while back to have them powdercoated & I thought I significantly bled each caliper enough to remove any air, but the pedal didn't seem quite as stiff as before. There are definitely no leaks at all at the bleeder screws or connection lines which is what I originally thought it might be. I heard somewhere that the ABS light would come on if there was air in the system, which hasn't happened in my case, but I wasn't sure if that was true or not.
I'm sure this could just be my imagination too, but any comments would be appriciated.

the abs light should only come on if the abs is disabled not if you have air in the lines. you will know if you have air in the lines if the pedal has a spongy feel to it.

I believe the ABS light would only come on if the ABS failed. With air in the lines, you'll notice that the pedal will be inconsistent and spongy. One time it may be firm, another soft. It can be real annoying. You've driven the car a little, so simply rebleed the lines a little, and that should cure it.
