Mine is temporarily mounted where the ashtray lid used to be. My lid was missing so I fabbed a piece to cover it. It works well but I have a new console with a lid so it's moving soon. I've seen them mounted everywhere though, on the shifter itself, on the driver's seat by the power controls, on the console on a plate that covers that little holder, and sometimes even under the knee panel by the trunk release button. I prefer a location by the shifter within easy reach but not in the way of daily driving.

The original owner of my car had an SLP line lock and the switch was mounted on the left hand side of the steering wheel. But he got it cought on some loose clothing when getting out of the car and ripped it right off! There has been a hunk about the size of a quarter missing from my wheel since the day I bought it

I ran it to the left side of the footwell and connected it to a coiled, momentary transbrake button with a weatherpack connector. When in use, I just hang it with a tie-wrap on the left-side, dash vent. When not in use, I can disconnect it and hide the cable underneath the dash.
