You can just install springs, but your ride will take a significant hit, and handling won't be much better. These cars lack dampening control from the factory, the shocks are the weak point. If your just going to be drag racing, then you probably want to look into some QA1s or another drag shock. If its a DD and your on a budget, pick up some KYB AGXs. If your serious about making your car the best handling machine you possibly can...Koni SAs

Bottom line.... springs aren't going to net you a substantial performance increase if not matched with some good shocks. In fact you'll notice a way bigger difference in the car with shocks alone, and id recommend getting some before you get springs.

It's a DD and i'm not worried much about the handling cause it's basically highway driving. I just want to lower it. So will my shocks be ok if I add springs?

Like he said. The ride will suck. And the stock shocks will most likely blow out with a stiffer and lower after market spring.

Define "OK". Will they work? ya. Will you like the way the car rides? Probably not. The stock shocks were not designed for lowering springs, and don't even cut it with stock springs.

ryan, you sound like me when i wanted to lower my car, so just lower it with the springs for now (not sport lines). i didnt have the money for shocks at the time either.
after a whole year and 1 month later i dont regret doing it this way, i do see myself getting shocks in the future though.
make sure you get an alignment and you will be good

If you're going to change just the springs for now, I would go with BMR progressive rate springs. These springs provide a 1" drop yet retain the OE ride quality by increasing the spring rate:

FRONT: 310-550 lbs/in
REAR: 145-170 lbs/in

^^ "progressive" means the spacing in between the winds are not equal => the winds closer together compress first, then those wider apart, improving ride quality

$230 for the set
