Squealing brakes
Ok I'm ready to have a conniption. My brakes will NOT stop ******* squealing. Just replaced all four pads. Tried putting anti-squeal compound on the back of the shims (which are on the back of the pad). Tried removing the shims all together. Tried using just compound on the back of the pad. Tried removing the (dunno what its called) piece of metal that sits just above the pad on the caliper. The last thing helped out a bit - but they're still squealing. No glazing or oil on the pads or rotors. Its the passenger side for sure. I'm wondering if this is what I get for using cheap Autozone or Murrays brake pads, but I've never had this problem before.
Now, I know pretty much all there is to know about brakes so this is really pissing me off. What I really need to know is every possible point of contact that could cause high pitch squealing Thanks in advance.

I just put new ceramic ones on my rears last night and they still squeak too, i'd check your rotors you probably need new ones..and be sure to use new pads with the neew rotors. and what are the brake shiims? are those the little pieces of metal that clip onto the back of the pad? i think i took one of those off, lol

I have had the exact same problem with my brakes.
Bought a 2000 Z28 7 months ago and they were squealing, so I have replaced all 4 rotors and put on all new ceramic pads to no avail.
I have had about 10 cars and have never had this be a non-stop issue in the past.
Is this squealing/whistling indemic to camaros????

If the brakes are new and installed properly, the hubs/bearings may be going out. As they wear out, they can create a squeal that sounds like a break squeal.

My driver front squeals when I put the brakes on, sometimes. Usually when I am slow and near a stop it starts the *squeak...squeak...squeak...* if I let off and reapply it will then go away sometimes. Really annoys me. I got some brake quiet stuff to try at the store today, I think if I soak the rotor and pads it should help... no wait...

you didn't mention whether you refinished the rotors? remember harder pad compound is going to cause more noise. Softer compound more effective, less noise, but won't last as long.

some people say that means the brakes are just working right.
my f150 that i drove had squeaky breaks from like 0-35mph and it never went away even after everything was changed. brakes worked fine so i really didnt care.

Mine are doing the same thing . . . I can hear them making noise then I put very slight pressure on the pedal and it goes away. I'm going to be replacing pads and rotors soon so I hope it goes away.

My rear brakes squaked when I applied the brake, at any speed or pressure. The fronts started to do it to, and they gave me the old shimmy.
The rear pads looked to have some life left(they were at 50% with 55k miles), but I bought some new pads and had the rear rotors turned.
I replaced both the front and rear pads with the most expensive thing O'Riely's had, and I replaced the front rotors with new GM OEM spec units at 55k. At 115k, my brakes are still great.
My point is that you should buy the best parts you can. I did that and my brakes are still fine after 60k miles.
