I'm about to start auto-crossing my 02 Z28 and I have added the following parts:

Strano springs, sway bars, UMI "on-car" adjustable PHB, Bilstein HD's (already on when I bought it) BMR tubular LCA's, and 17" SS wheels with BFG G-Force's

My pads are about 60% gone and the rotors have already been turned once and are close to being out of spec for turning again.

What rotors and pads would you reccommend for this application? The car sees about 3-500 street miles a month and will see 2 auto cross events per month.

I'd like to stay under $500 if possible, which rules out all those flashy words like Brembo, Baer, and Wilwood. My guess is they don't need to be drilled/slotted, but I do like the look (however don't like the cracking)

You get the two sets of Hawk HPS pads, and 4 high quality, coated ATE rotors (german, same company that makes ATE Super Blue fluid and most brakes for most German cars like BMW, Audi, VW, etc.) with a discount applied to the kit that saves you a few bucks vs. buying the same parts individually.

On the other end of the scale we have some more inexpensive rotors for about $180 a set. Add the pads and you are looking less than $340.... The rotors aren't the same kind of metal, and do not have a rust resistant coating, but they seem to work well enough in most cases.

 

is that BP1 kit good for DD use with occasional autoX?

 

Yes, it's quite fine... Actually autoxing isn't particularly hard on brakes. Hard street/backroad driving is more demanding on them in most cases.

Brembo Blanks, ATE fluid and EBC Greenstuff (not Redstuff or any other colorstuff!) pads. HPS pads are good too.

 

i've got some baer 2 piece drilled and slotted with autozone duralast gold pads. if this a bad combo for auto x? i really don't want to warp these rotors.

 

should be OK but don't get drilled rotors next time. All they do is weaken the rotor.
