You are correct the reciever is the registered part of the firearm. Its a stupid *** rule anyway, WE LIVE IN TEXAS, we should be exempt from that rule. I wonder if gunbroker.com forbids fast cars??? GLWTS

I'm haven't put any rounds through it yet. Just built it a couple months ago and then I ruptured my achilles. I just got the ok from the Dr. today to start walking on it again with a boot. It's a 16" barrel with a carbine gas system on it so it should shoot well.
The plan was to reload, I've got some .223 brass I shot from my last rifle in a bag, but honestly the rounds are starting to come out in production, both super and subs, FMJ and open.

I used to be stuck on the 7.62x51, but not anymore. The .300 BLK shoots a .308 bullet in a .223 brass that's been cut so it comes out to a 7.62x35. It's a wildcat, but I think it's great because you can shoot a .30 caliber projectile out of a std AR15 platform, no special mags or anything.
It's considerably cheaper than going to a true AR-10 and the BCG on the 5.56 is more reliable anyway. That coupled with the versatility of the .308 bullet it's awesome. I could shoot a subsonic 220gr projectile or a supersonic 140gr projectile out of the same gun, just by switching mags, not to mention suppressed it's only a little louder than a suppressed MP5.

Hahaha, very nice. Military surplus is definitely a huge point when considering a caliber, esp when doing what you will be doing. I've seen a couple of vids of helicopter hog hunts, looks like crazy fun!!
