Default Scrap blocks for sale?

Im looking into working on some projects for the house and my wife and I are really interested in having a LS coffee table.

I was wondering where or who to talk to about getting un repairable blocks (preferably aluminum) to start experimenting with. Id be willing to throw what they would be worth scrap. I was thinking hitting up the scrap yards but they never know anything.

just seeing if anyone in the DFW area has some connections.

also looking for junk turbos and possibly clutch/flywheels. trying to keep myself occupied until taxes come in haha.

thanks for the input.

thats what im thinking about, where did you get your glass for the top? care to post up some pictures? im thinking about drilling and tapping the connecting rods to the top of the block to support the glass but i think that may put it a bit too high for my liking.

I'm having the glass cut at a local glass store (sportsman glass I believe) i have some pictures on my phone, if someone can tells how to post pictures from an iPhone is be glad to share them.
I stood the block up on end but I like the idea of it laying flat and having pistons support the glass as well

i was thinking of going local as well, may i ask how much for your glasswork?

I've got a itch i need to scratch and using old parts to make something new seems to cure it right now. otherwise im going to dump money in the cars haha

thanks, I saw someone in DFW with a LS3 coffee table today on Craigslist and it looked pretty good even had the pistons on top just no glass. wanted $500

I want to build it myself and make something a little different.

maybe lazer etch the glass with a design.

Bump, anyone have a scrap block in the DFW area I don't mind too far of a drive. The machine and performance shops I've called say they didn't have anything. Going to call scrap yards and junk yards next.
