Yes i have a chl and have a gun with me all the time. I am not saying it should not be an option but i would not want it to be mandatory. I prefer for the crook to not know i am carrying so i have a chance although it is uncomfortable at times and open carry would be nice.

I would hate that and think it would work against you.

When i carry the crook has no idea until I brandish my weapon and it is a surprise to him. Now if i had to carry it open they know i have a gun and intern they shoot first. I think it might direct them to easier victims initially but would end up working against the carrier at times.

I don't know if I am conveying my thoughts correctly but basically i feel eventually it would be like a target on your back.
i think that line of thought is not realistic at all. most "thugs" are going to avoid someone that is carrying.

For every excuse you can make to prevent us of this right, an equal excuse can be made to warrant it. Why would you prefer to give up a right? I believe 46 other states allow open carry. Texas is the most pro-gun state, and we have to conceal? Nonsense.
+1!!!!!! thank you!!

Speaking of open carry / CHL's.

Can anyone give me a definite answer on the law / experience having a loaded weapon in the car? I don,t have a CHL yet but on some trips would like to carry my pistol in my vehicle. Little hesitant as I don't want to be taken to Jail over having a loaded weapon in the car and no CHL.

thanks

must be concealed to and from the auto, must be concealed at all times in the vehicle, and you must be the person incontrol of the vehicle.

^^^, but remember one stipulation of the law is that you cannot commit higher than a class C misdemeanor (while driving) while having the handgun inside of the vehicle.

Racing on Highway - Class B Misdemeanor- you could also be charged with UCW at this point

Reckless Driving - Class B - same as above

DWI - Cass B - same as above

No Liability Insurance (Enhanced)(the official title is Operate Motor Vehicle Without Financial Responsibility) - Class B - same

Just some things to keep in mind. Always have that current insurance card with you, .

Well I have a CHL and its great. I normally carry my 15 ounce .22 on me. But If I could open carry the .45 could tag along alot more. At the same time yeah everyone knows your packing and there are advantages and disadvantages of open carry. But it would be option not mandentory, and a thug would rather go for someone without a gun than someone with one. I mean just because you only see one of my guns doesnt mean the other 1 or 2arent loaded that you dont see.

Another thing OPTIONAL open carry.

I'd like to hear of an instance where that actually happened.

Well think about it.. Lets say your a 45 year old male with a nice glock on his hip, And said thug is some 25 year old pump on some **** and needs a gun for a quick high or somthing. He sees the gun and ambushes the 65 year old because he sees a easy target he can take down fast. Now with the gun not exposed he runs the chances of the older male or female not having enough money or proptery to be worth his time. All Im saying is a open gun just says hey to thugs I got somthing u want and if that thug wants it he will get it.

For the love of god I wouldent. Just as I stated above its all about what a thug wants. And if he sees a 800-900 dollar glock or what ever and the target is elderly or what ever he will attemp to get it. Now if the law states that a handgun can be carried conceled wich I think it dose it should stay that way. Because a thug will never know who has what. If I was a thug and needed a hand gun and seen a soccer mom with one leaving walmart at night all it takes is the right time and mace she cant shoot what she cant see. What made her a target to me is I seen a 800 dollar glock that will fetch me some weed money. Granted I will never do this but it can happen.

I think these ideas are a little unfounded. Remember, this is Texas... we love our guns. I dont think you will have to worry about thugs attempting to steal your firearm seeing as how there will be at least 1 other person with a pistol on their hip to help deter the situation. Alone, maybe. In public... no way. Besides, if you dont have enough situational awareness to prevent someone from putting their hand on your firearm, you have no business carrying it.

i doubt that applies if you are parked in your drivewayfor example. you can open carry a gun on your own property.

That is the point Im trying to make. Situational awareness is key, I understand this is Texas another country within one but now these days we have too much going on. Some people this would work but to some who must answer that cell phone, Or the mom who has her kids and packing heat in the open is asking for trouble. And for good god if a thug is attempting to steal a weapon and some one wants to be the hero and shoots the victom now what? It wont work for everybody so it must not be good. I know this If I see some one packing heat in broad daylight Im getting the ***** away. You will never know who is going to do what, we still have those who choose to harm americans in the mits too. And the last thing I would need is some gun sling hero shooting wildly and strike my kid

Texas has a lot of tourism and just like Miami and a while back miami had an open carry law. Miami turned in to a ghost town. This law is a very bad idea and will hurt Texas economy even more.

Plus people are retarted and i dont want to have to start running more gun shot wound call than i have to. People will be less carefull with there guns leaving them out and there will be more kids killing themselfs while playing with daddys gun than every.

Is there a web sight that is against this open carry push.
